My gr,gr,grandfather, Abida
Smith
came to
Clarendon
@ 1870 and brought his 3 children; George
Philo
Smith
,
Harriett
Smith
(who married John Keep) and Mary Elisabeth
Smith
(who married Timothy Edward
Blashfield
). I am trying to find out if any of my relatives owned land in or around
Clarendon
or what house they lived in. Can anyone help me? Thank you for your time.

The index to the 1873 Plat Map
Atlas
of
Calhoun County
shows
a "Smith, G P" owning land in sections 8 and 17 of
Clarendon
County. Willard Library has the
Atlas
on which the landowners are clearly shown.

George, thank you so much for this information. I just received the Plat book of
Calhoun County
yesterday and have had a hard time reading it but now I'll know just where to look. I'm still trying to find out exactly when Abida moved to
Clarendon
. He shows up on the 1870
Clarendon
census and in 1860 he was in Vt.

I should think you would need the image from the actual 1873
Plat
Atlas
showing property demarcations to make any sense on a modern map of where they were.
