Matthias or Matthew O'Grady m. Mary McNamara C1852 arr Australia 1852. Family lived in Macclesfield Sth Australia in the Adelaide hills. I believe from Truagh/ Doonass area of E Clare. Many other E Clare families lived in Macclesfield/ Strathalbyn area in 19C. Some other names with connections to O'Gradys: McNamara, Considine, Nestor, Guerin, Hoobin, Cosgrave, Vaughan, Brennan, McCarthy, Casey, Bourke, Mears, Campbell. Other brothers/cousins? O'Gradys in area in SA: Patrick & Laurence. Matthias & Mary called their first son John & second son Martin, so these may have been paternal & maternal grandfathers' names. Remainder of O'Grady family believed to have gone to England & USA, but no contact kept as family did not write English. Still Irish speakers when they first migrated.

Hi Maureen,
we have communicacted previously although I was Jon Patrick then. I have since discovered my father changed his name so I have gone back to the orginal family name. I'm a member of the GSV and the IAG.
When we last talked about the O'Grady clan it was not evident we had any connection. However I have recently found that my people came from Trough which you have listed as an area for your people. MY immigrant ancestors are my grgrgrfather Emund O'Grady ( 1818, Truagh, 1868, Mt Macedon) married 1846, O'Callaghans' Mills to Caterhine COONEY (1828, Silvergrove, 1878, Mt Macedon). There seems to have been an enclave of connected families around Mt Macedon and Woodend which I am trying to reconstruct consisting of O'Gradys, Kellys, Egans and Cooneys.
One of the mysteries of Edmund is that we can't find him landing in Mebourne which has to be between 1857 and 1863, based on the birth of his children. I have always wondered if he landed in Sth Aust. Catherine arrived with the children in July 1862, but without Edmund.
I'd be grateful for more information about your people,
cheers
Jon O'grady

I have Casey ancestors who emigrated to Brisbane (not sure of dates), who married into McNamara and O'Grady families in Australia and Ireland. One of my Casey relatives, Mary 'Minnie' Casey married a Patrick McNamara, I don't know if in Australia or Ireland. I've been told by Minnie's great grandson Shane (who lives in Brisbane today) that in Clare the McNamaras and Caseys were neighbors, as well as the O'Gradys living in same area. If there is any connection here, please let me know as I would be glad to swap info....Thanks!!!

Nicole
