I am searching for information on my Robert W. Holliday family (carriage maker) in Poughkeepsie NY. Robert was born ca. 1788-1792 in NYS, spent some time in Genesee Co and also Zanesville, OH before finally settling in Poughkeepsie. Wife was Rhoda. Both Robert and Rhoda died ca 1862-1866. Robert served in the War of 1812 and briefly in the Civil War before he was discharged for "old age".
Robert and Rhoda (nee Ward)hadchildren: Harrison Holliday b. ca. 1817-18 (m Mary Ostrom of Hyde Park), Henry Holliday b. ca. 1820-22 (m Sarah poss Graham), Emeline Holliday b. 1827 Genesee Co. (m Sov. Augustus Donaldson), Louisa Holliday b. 1831-34 (m. Edward Walters), Frances Holliday b. ca. 1833-37 (m Benjamin/Alfred Sanford), John C. Holliday b. ca. 1837-38, Elizabeth Holliday b. ca. 1841-42 OH, and my gg grandmother, Sarah Jane Holliday b. 1845-46 OH.
I have tracked these families forward but am trying to find Robert W's ancestors. I know he was in Genesee Co. at least in 1827 and OH in 1843-46. His War of 1812 papers show he served in Regt 1 of Hopkins' Militia and he traveled from Batavia, NY to Fort Erie. I later find him in Zanesville, OH for a few years and later in Poughkeepsie as a carriage maker with his son, Harrison, until his death. Harrison was a Captain in the Civil War and died from wounds sustained in the 2nd battle of Bull Run.
We were always told there might be a Canadian connection of this family but Robert indicates he was born in NY.
If anyone thinks they might connect to this family, I would love to hear from you.
