Over the years the spelling of the surname Mike has changed to Myke.
See my post here about Catharine Mike/Myke nee ? (this link has a photo of Catharine)
http://boards.ancestry.ca/localities.northam.canada.ontario....I have no information who her parents were but she was a full blooded Native American woman who belonged to the
http://www.newcreditfirstnation.com/ and her husband John Mike was a non native man. After Catharine died her sons were removed, or evicted from the lands of the New Credit Reservation that they were considered to be squatting on. I read in one of the files from Library and Archives of Canada that their names were all at one time upon the membership list of the Mississauga's of the Credit Band but were removed from the membership list in that band because their father was a "mulatto" "colored" "blackman" (that is how John Mike was described in the files).
This is just my opinion but the Superintendent of Indian affairs for the Six Nations and Mississauga's at the time was Jasper Gilkison. I believe it was because of him that the Mike brothers/ sons of Catharine and John Mike were removed from the membership list of the Mississauga's of the New Credit. From reading the files in the last link below it seems to me that he made it a mission to have them removed because their father was a "mulatto" "colored" "blackman".
