I am looking for information on Charles Gilliland, (1826-1908)prior to 1880 and his wife Rachel Meece (c.1830-1880?). Charles and his children moved to Lake Odessa, Michigan after 1880. I am looking for confirmation of his marriage date of 08 Jul 1849 in Liberty Twp, Van Wert Co., I would like her vital data; birth date, death date, and burial location for Rachel. She is not buried with the family in Lake Odessa, Michigan, there is no record on the census after 1880 or Michigan death record. Also her mother and father'
s names.

Some of the info is fairly easily available. Charles, Rachel and family are in the Van Wert county census listings 1850 thru 1880.

Only problem is 1860 has been transcribed as GILTILAND.

Extracted data from Van Wert Co. Probate Court dates the marriage to 1849. And a contributed listed puts the wedding in Liberty Twp. She is listed as Rachael MEES.

1850 Census data also indicates potential families for Philip MEES <1803> and Henry MEES <1808>, both in Liberty Twp.

1840 Census shows both Philip and Henry MEESE in Columbiana Co. You would have to check the 1840 demographics to see if you can isolate one of these families with an older daughter. Look for Ancestry Census transcriptions at your library.
