Looking for any information on Ludger Levasseur in the Red River or Natchitoches Parrish in Louisiana from about 1820 to 1854. Any info on his spouse and children could open up my brickwall. I have no info other than the name and time period.

SHERRY WEST,

My GGF was Ludger Frank Levasseur Sr. born on January 28, 1873 in Powhatan, LA (on Red River) outside of Natchitoches, LA. and died March 6, 1954. He had five sons and I am the daughter of one of them.

E-mail me if you think this is the same person you are looking for. If so, I can help you mostly with his descendants. Hopefully you can help me with his ancestors. I am new at this and need all the help and info I can get.

How are you related to him?

I found some information on Ludger at a site http://www.geocities.com/carroll_rambin

There is a Ludger, born January 21, 1828 , son of Lessin Ludger Levasseur and Marianne Trischel.

Lessin Ludger, born 1803 and died April 18, 1845, is listed as son of Emmanuel Simon LeVasseur and Genevieve Gonnin.

Emmanuel Simon, born Feb 26, 1780 and died 1826, is listed as son of Charles Francois LeVasseur and Marie Madore.

Charles Francois, born November 3, 1738 in Natichitoches, La, died 1819 was listed as son of Jacques LeVasseur dit LeJolibois and Francis Bourdon.

Jacques, born 1712 in Paris, parish of St Nicholas des Champs, France, died 1755 is listed as son of Charles LeVasseur.

I found this while looking for info on a Zeb LeVasseur who turned out to be a great grandson of Lessin Ludger Levasseur.

Hope this helps. If you can find any information on the Charles LeVasseur, father of Jacques, I would be interested.
My husband is Pierre LeVasseur from Van Buren, ME and I have been working on his family tree.

Hi Sherry,

I have just begun to research my husband's Levasseur relatives and read your message tonight. You probably have this information already, but just in case....

I went to the Natchitoches Genealogy Library this summer and in file T-10 found the following listing:

LEVASSEUR,Ludger, b. Natchitoches Parish, La., July 31, 1803; s.Manual Levasseur and M.J. ___________; m.Marianne Trichel, b. Natchitoches Parish, 1811, dau. Emanuel Trichel and Louise Euphrosnie Prudhomme. Children: Ludger Levasseur, b. Jan. 21, 1827; Hilaire Levasseur, b. Jan. 9,1830; Euzeba Levasseur, b.Nov. 14, 1831, m. Marie Veronique Laurent (Savoy, France); Marie Helene Levasseur, b. Aug. 6, 1835; Marie Emelienne Levasseur, b. Aug. 20, 1837; Emanuel Levasseur, b. Mar. 31, 1840.

Also, from the Louisiana Genealogical Register from 1975, page 136 (Genealogical Notes from The Natchitoches Union, October 1861 - December 1862): Succession Notice. Ludger Levasseur deceased. Leonard Trichel petitions to be appointed administrator 8-21-1862.

Euzeba is my husband's great-grandfather on his mother's side. I hope something in this information helps you. If you have anything from the family you would be willing to share, I would be grateful.

Eubeza just may be my ancestor also. My grandmother, Vivian Veronica Levasseur Barnes, said that her grandmother was a Laurent, and she was from France. I think she said that she was an English teacher. I cannot remember what Bigmama's (that's what we called Vivian) dad's name was. Her mother was a Williams. If you read this, I would love to hear from you.

Oh yes, somebody mentioned a Zeb Levasseur. My grandmother had a brother named Zeb, who lived in Shreveport. She also other brothers, one named Elmo, another whom we called Uncle Top. He lived in Monroe. I think there were one or two more brothers. She had three sisters: Cleo. Sadie, and Carrie.

You mention my grandfather, Zeb G. LeVasseur, a custom home builder in Shreveport. He had three brothers - Elmo, Top and AJ. A fourth brother, Napoleon, died as a child I believe. Zeb had three sisters, Cleo, Carrie and Sadie. Zeb also had two daughters, Glyn and Paula. I am Glyn's oldest son.

Regards,

Zeb G. LeVasseur, Jr.

Zeb Le Vasseur had another sister, Vivian. Her married name was Barnes, and she was the oldest of the girls. She was my grandmother. Okay, I just saw your signature. I think you, I and more cousins played kickball at least once, in the back yard on Pierrmont. I still drive by that house sometimes.

I still remember Uncle Zeb, sitting in his easy chair, reading the paper. And I remember Aunt Peggy, serving fish to us kids. And--I remember you and your sister. I looked for your email here but can't find it.

Very nice to hear from you...

Yes, Aunt Vivian! I recall visiting regularly. Many years ago now.

I have not been to Shreveport in quite awhile but, I have many fond memories of the house at 1034 Pierremont. It always seemed like such a big home in my childhood. I remember my last visit. It seemed small and unremarkable. Except for that steep driveway.

I have lived in the Houston area since 1974 and have twenty-one years with Bayer Corporation behind me now. I work in Human Resources at the company's Baytown chemical manufacturing site. Glyn, my mother, lives near by and is doing well. You may have heard that Paula, her sister, died recently.

I never had children. I have, however, been blessed with the chance to help raise a few. I even thought I was going to adopt a "step" grandchild. Would'nt that be history repeating itself?

I hope this found you well and in good cheer. I'm sure I'll check back in sometime in the future.

Kind Regards,
z
