We are trying to trace the descendants of Catherine Gow of Crieff, Perthshire, who married Hector Munro.

We know that Hector and Catherine had at least 2 children by the name of Angus and Catherine and that at the time of Hector's death they lived in High Street, Crieff.

If you think you may be related or hold relevant information on this family please email us on

I am researching a Catherine Small Gow who was born 17 November 1830 in Mether Thainston, near Fettercairn, Scotland. Her family migrated to Australia and had to leave her behind. We have been unable to find any record of her after that. Is ti possible she is the Catherine Gow you are tracing?

Surnames: Gow Sharp Mackay Fox
Hello

My GOW ancestors emigrated to Australia from Crieff in Scotland.

Catherine Mackay had married a man from Crieff: Sgt James Gow of 93rd Sutherland Highlanders who was killed in 1857 at Lucknow, India. They had 3 children: Mary, Isabella and James. Catherine Gow was living in Crieff in 1861 with these 3 children. Mary Gow married Samuel Fox Sharp and Isabella GOW came to Brisbane on the same ship with them and their children.

James and Catherine Gow are my great great grandparents. Even though I visited Crieff in person, I have been unable to advance further.

It would be great if we could get in touch and share our joint experiences so we may unlock the mystery.
Cheers
Susan

Hi Susan - Isabella Gow married David Dunnet in Brisbane after emigrating. They had one daughter Florence Catherine Dunnett 1890. Isabella died in 1911. Florence married her first cousin (born Wick Scotland) John Geddes Dunnett at Vulture Street, South Brisbane on 28/4/1915 and they had one son John (Jack) William Dunnett 23/03/1917. John William Dunnett married Evelyn Susan Mottershead in 1941 and they had John William Dunnett 1943 (my husband's father) and Raymond ? Dunnett 1947 (Unmarried). John William Dunnett married Lynette Estelle Harland on 30/04/66 and they had Geoffrey John Dunnett 1969 (my husband) and Megan Ann Dunnett 1970. Hope this helps with your research. Isabella Gow emigrated to Australia with her sister Mary and her husband John Fox Sharp and their childred. Isabella had an illegitimate child (John) who is listed as one of the sisters children on the ship manifest. This child was brought up by Mary and her husband as one of their own and as Isabella's nephew. I don't believe that John ever found out that Aunt Isabella was really his mother as Mary is listed on his death certificate as his mother. Isabella also had another son in Brisbane in 1876 who died at less than one before she married David Dunnett. Hope this info helps in your research. Please feel free to contact me traceydunnett@hotmail.com if you have any further questions. Kind regards, Tracey Dunnett
