My grgrgrandfather was William Meeks. In ancestry.com he is listed as having a son Benjamin Franklin. William also has another son James Meeks who was in the Civil War.Wm was married to Mary Palmer from London. England, Ohio or Ky., I don't know except that on James death certificate she is listed as from London England. That could be an assumption. There is a Fanney Meeks listed as a daughter of Benjamin Franklin. I would certainly like to find the submitter, treeclimr@aol.com. There has never been a response to my inquirey. Thanks for any info., if there could be any.

In the "History of Wayne Co. Ohio, Pioneers and First Settlers", It states that William Meeks came from Virginia. William, John and Robert are there in Ohio in the 1820 Census. The Birth Year for William is around 1792-1795. If anyone has information about a William Meeks that left Virginia some time before 1820, please let me know. I am not sure if this is the same William, or if it is his son William, that went to Constantine Michigan in 1828 and started the "Meeks Mill". That same William Meeks also became a Judge in St. Joseph County Michigan

Norma, some of those name are in my family. It is odd that you should mention Fanny because her real name was Elizabeth Francis or vice versa (don't have notes in front of me). Benjamin Franklin is also my grandfather and Fanney's brother. There is also a Benjamin Franklin that is my grandfather's uncle. I have the Meeks family of Wood County (Parkersburg, Northend area, Sand Plains Community) back 6 generations now. The only Fanny I have or know for sure is my great aunt. Maybe we have a connection. Give me more info on how you discovered a Fanny.
Thanks, Sue

Sue I found B.F.Meeks on the Ancestry.com. It William and Mary M. Palmer Meeks as the parents. Wife Phoebe Ellen Bartlett. M. 7 Sept 1890. Childen Fannie Lee Meeks/she m. Walter Clinton Dunn. They had Elsie Irene Dunn b. 19 Mar 1911 This Meeks tree contains 15,902,800 individuals and is growing. There is more and I hope you find some of these in your tree. While I was in Paris,Ill ond day I went to the court house to get the death certificate of Ben. It lists Wm and Mary as his parents. The informant was Ed Meeks. Ben was born 4 July 1843/Mo. died 5 Aug 1934. Gee and I was living in Paris at that time. And I was 7 at that time. I do remember the name of Dunn and I didn't think they were very smart Will close for now Norma.

Surnames: Dunn, Meeks, Vidito, Neal
Walter Clinton Dunn and Fannie Lee (Meeks) were my gandparents. In addition to Elsie Irene (who went by Sis) and married James Neal there were the twins Offie Sherman Dunn and Ottie Herman Dunn, who was my father. There was also a brother named Richard (Dick) Dunn. Ottie married Opal Marie Vidito and they had 3 sons. There was Chris Herman Dunn, Raymond Leroy Dunn and myself- Keith Dwayne Dunn. Back to the Grandparents, Walter lived under the stern rule of Fannie. He was not permitted by her to visit his children. Fannie HATED children and sent my father to be raised by his Aunt in Terre Haute which split the twins. That aunt's name was Lottie or Tootie. (One was his aunt and the other his cousin but I can never remember which names goes to which woman! They were great people though.)
Also, I remember going for trips as a boy to Paris and Kankakee IL. We visited a farm there and the relative who owned the farm was also a pilot of a small aircraft he owned.
In addition there are these rumors I heard from Aunt Sis:
There was a John Lacy (Lacey?) back in the family somewhere. Also, big deal here, the name Dunn is a maternal name in our family as there was a male child born out of wedlock whose mother's name was Dunn. Apparently the father's name was Vanverventen or something close to that.
AND also, Fannie Meeks was part Blackfoot Indian.
Or so the oral history went...
