Looking for info. Any info as to a spouse of Carl lavender son of Horace? Also interested in the origin of lazarus' father John. Any war records would also be greatly appreciated.

This is not a name that I have researched but I thought I see what I could find for you and give you some sites that might be of interest.
First all Canadian Census are available free at
http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/census/Pages/census.aspx
The first census to name all people in the household was in 1871 and I found the following family
John Lavender age 85, Head, married born Nova Scotia, African ethnicity
Barbara Lavender age 70, wife, married, born Nova Scotia, German ethnicity
John Lavender age 23, born Nova Scotia African ethnicity
Elizabeth Lavender, age 18, born Nova Scotia, African ethnicity

So the above John would have been born around 1786.

The next two families on the Census were two married couples (no children)
Lazarus age 30 and his wife Elizabeth age 20 and Ezekial age 28 and his wife Emily age 17. Both these couples the male is listed as African and the wife is English. Both men were occupied in the farming and lumbering industry.

The other site you need to check out is the free Nova Scotia Archives site.
www.novascotiagenealogy.ca
Here you will find early records such as birth and marriage records. You may need to download a viewer program which is free onsite to see the actual record.

The marriage record of Lazarus and Elizabeth can be found there as follows
(Note that the names they used on the above Census were their middle names- a very common custom perpetuated by the German settlers of Lunenburg)
November 4, 1868, Waterloo, Lunenburg Co., Lutheran
William Lazarus Lavender age 27, bachelor, farmer, residing in Waterloo, born Northfield, son of John and Barbara Lavender married Amelia Elizabeth Conley age 18, spinster, dau. of James and Caroline Conley
Incidentally, Lazarus’ brother Ezekial married Elizabeth’s sister, Emily.

The earliest Lunenburg County records can be found at
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~canns/lunenburg/bmd.html

I found two records from St. James Lutheran church as follows
JOHN LAVENDER widower married July 19, 1802 Lucy Gardiner, widow (and)
JOHN LAVENDER widower married October 23, 1804 Susannah Philips, widow
It’s certainly possible that the above John was the grandfather of your Lazarus.

The marriage certificates of both Horace and Horace’s son Carl (spelled Carol in the records) can be found on the Nova Scotia Archive site.

The 1901 and 1911 Census records can be found at
www.automatedgenealogy.com
This is a free and searchable site

I encourage you to research the above sites- if you have any problems accessing them, let me know.
