REYKJALIN family in Iceland and Manitoba, Canada
Greetings.
I am researching the family of Fredrika Reykjalin. According to Canadian census records, she was born January 6, 1863 in Iceland, emigrated to Manitoba in 1876, presumably with other family members. Her death record lists her birth year as 1864.
What is my next step? How do I locate her birthplace and records in Iceland? I have very little information about other family members at this time.
Thank you in advance for your kind assistance

Fridrika's father (Halldor Reykjalin was my great great grandmother's brother. Her name was Ingibjorg Fridriksdottir I could give you many previous generations and have been studying this family for a number of years which is too lengthy to mention all at once. Fridrika was married to a Mr.Cuzner who I know nothing about. The Reykjalins came from East Bardastrand. If you would like to know more please reply.

Thank you for making contact. Yes, we would be delighted to learn more of this family. Fridrika REYKJALIN married Mark Richard CUZNER who was a barber in Winnipeg, Manitoba. They had 10 children, including Ivy CUZNER, born in 1895. She was my daughter-in-law's great-grandmother.

My greatgrandmother's name was Fridrika Reykjalin. She married Mark Cuzner. Her daughter Ivy was my grandmother. Do you have any information about Fridrika's family in Iceland? Thank you.

Do you know what Halldor Reykjalin's occupation was in Iceland? Did Fridrika emigrate to Canada with her father? Do you know her mother's name? Thank you.

Well what information are you looking for?
Her father, Halldór Friðriksson (1824-1905), was the one who adopted the Reykjalín family name. His first wife (and Friðrika's mother) was Sigríður Jónsdóttir, who died a few months after Friðrika was born, leaving three young girls, Friðrika, Anna and Sigríður. Halldór remarried soon afterwards - his second wife was Sigurrós Halldórsdóttir and they had 5 children here in Iceland
The whole family emigrated in 1876 - Sigurður and Sigurrós, as well as the 8 children.
She also had 5 half-siblings, from her father's second marriage, but they all emigrated as well - which basically means that there are no close relatives in Iceland.

Eh, sorry - what I meant to say at the end was:
The fact that her siblings and half-siblings all emigrated basically means that there are no close relatives in Iceland.
I just hit the "Post" button before I had finished the editing.

Occupation? Well, in addition to being a part-time carpenter, he was a farmer at Þverdalur in Saurbær region, Dalasýsla 1864-65, and later in Ólafsdalur, near Kollafjarðarnes - at the time of the 1870 census he is listed as a farmer at Hnausakot, Efrinúpur-parish, Húnavatnssýsla.
