Death of Peter
Gallagher. - Peter
Gallagher, an old resident of
Jones' Bar, was caved on by a bank while engaged in mining, a week or more ago, but it was not supposed at the time that he was seriously hurt, but subsequently it was discovered that one of his hips was broken, and James
Gallagher, his nephew, brought him up to his house on Gold Flat, that he might receive more convenient medical attention. Mr. Gallagher continued, however, to grow worse, and on Wednesday afternoon died from the effects of his hurt. He had no family.

Gallagher took place yesterday. He had been a resident of
Jones' Bar since the early 50's, when it was one of the principal mining camps in the county.

Peter Galagher (surname is spelled this way on his tombstone) is buried in Old St. Patrick's Cemetery (corner of
Chapel and Church streets) Grass Valley, CA. The death notice stating he had no family is incorrect as can be seen within his Probate case #411 on file at Doris
Foley Library for historical research. His tombstone, besides having the misspelled last name, also has the wrong year of death (1888) when he died in 1889. Also appearing on this stone are the names Peter and Edward
Sheridan. The stone was erected after the death of Peter
Sheridan through a stipulation in his will, in which Edward is listed as his brother and Peter
Gallagher as a friend. The
Sheridan brothers were born in Ireland (possibly county
Cavan as the will states they had a brother and two sisters residing there).
Peter Gallagher's probate case #411 was filed on Feb. 6, 1889, by petitioner James F. Gallagher, listed as his nephew within said document. This document is extremely hard to read, but through it I found James F. Gallagher was aged 35 and was residing at Peter Sheridan's in Nevada County. The existance of a possible sister is connected by the mentioning of a deceased brother, Frank
Gallagher, the word sister could be deciphered, but may have been sister-in-law, in some places it looks like a name was given, but it was indecipherable.
