On the 1860 census for
Bolivar County, MS are 3 pages which give
Prentiss as the Post Office. From other sources,
Prentiss was supposed to be a fairly large, for the time, town until its destruction by
Sherman. So why only 3 pages listed with post office at
Prentiss? I do note that the occupation for most on those 3 pages do indicate that they live in a town - blacksmith, physician, lawyer, carpenter, etc. My interest is a Step(h)en
Morgan born in
KY who is listed with no occupation living with
Hiram Watson (They evidently ran a boarding house or hotel). My grandmother said he (her grandfather)told her he was an overseer on a plantation in
Mississippi before the War. I know he went on to enlist in 1863 in "northern
Mississippi" in the 12
KY Cavalry, CSA. After the war he lived in TN and was a preacher for the ME Church, South. I am at a loss trying to obtain pre Civil War info on this my great great grandfather. Thanks for any help or direction you may give me.
