On the 1860 census for Bolivar County, MS are 3 pages which give Prentiss as the Post Office. From other sources, Prentiss was supposed to be a fairly large, for the time, town until its destruction by Sherman. So why only 3 pages listed with post office at Prentiss? I do note that the occupation for most on those 3 pages do indicate that they live in a town - blacksmith, physician, lawyer, carpenter, etc. My interest is a Step(h)en Morgan born in KY who is listed with no occupation living with Hiram Watson (They evidently ran a boarding house or hotel). My grandmother said he (her grandfather)told her he was an overseer on a plantation in Mississippi before the War. I know he went on to enlist in 1863 in "northern Mississippi" in the 12 KY Cavalry, CSA. After the war he lived in TN and was a preacher for the ME Church, South. I am at a loss trying to obtain pre Civil War info on this my great great grandfather. Thanks for any help or direction you may give me.

Who are the Pleasants of Rosedale, Ms are they related to the Pleasents from Jonestown, Ms. The Pleasents of Jonestown are my inlaws. And are the Stuckeys of Clarksdale, Ms. and the Pleasents related? These are african american families. One Pleasent who went into the military would be in his approm. mid 60's now his is Edward Stuckey or Edward Pleasent. His mother was from Clarksdale and her last name was Stuckey. Pardon me but this imfor. should have been posted on the Coahoma County site. There are a lots of Stuckeys buried at heavenly rest cemetary in Clarksdale and this is the same family. pijowal2
