Hi, I'm new to all of this. I know that my great great grandfather, LC Peyton (d. 1927) and his first wife, Maria (d. 1910) (or Mariah?) Peyton are buried in Fairview (Riverview?) cemetery in Sutherland. I think his son(?), Lewis E Peyton and daughter, Eva Coker (Mrs. Walter Coker) are also buried there. Is this cemetery taken care of so that I could get a picture of their graves or is it in disrepair? Any info on the store LC apparently owned in Sutherland? Any info on other relatives? I'm related thru LC Peyton's son, Cyrus I., daughter, Eva. Thanks so much.

Hi, i saw your query, so i thought i would respond.
Yes the Cemetery is well maintained and pictures should be possible. The cemetery is about 1 mile south of Sutherland on hiway 25 south. or if traveling on I-80, you would turn south off of the exit, follow the road past the gas station, it bends to the right, and you will see it on your right just before going up the hill towards the resivoir.
I grew up in Sutherland, currently I live in Omaha, but i go back there on occasion, my parents are also buried in that cemetery.
Hope this helps.
Dale

Hi Allison,

I have gathered alot of information on the Peyton (Payton) and Coker families for you. I have obits, census records, court papers, cemetary records, Lincoln County History biography information, and alot of information from the Sutherland Centennial book. There are alot of pictures in the Sutherland book of your ancestors and their businesses they had in Sutherland. Let me know if you want me to send this to you. I do charge .15cents per copy. You can mail me at my address.

Could you tell me more about this Walter Coker? I am searching for a Walter Owens Coker who was born 16 Jun 1895 in Indian Territory which is now present day Oklahoma. His father was a Joseph Peyton Coker. This Coker family moved from Georgia to Comanche, Texas in 1840 to 1850. The last record I found for Walter Owens Coker was in Santa Barbara, California where he registered for the WWI draft. He was married and had one child. He is also on the California voting list in Santa Barbara but not found on the list in 1920 or after. He possibly died in California before 1920 but since I saw your reference to the name Peyton and Walter Coker; I decided to ask.

What is the connection between your Peyton family and the Coker family?

Best,

The Sutherland Cokers appear to be a different family. William Stewart "Stew" Coker from Sutherland wrote a book about his life, It Happened In Cow Country. In it he says his Father was William Sherman Coker and his grandfather was John Coker, an Englishman who came to Nebraska in 1884.
