I am researching the Peter McBride Family of Fairfield, CT. In the 1850 Census they are listed as Peter, Hannah, John, and Bernard in Redding. Bernard was a soldier in the Civil War and my wife's family has a letter from him describing the Battle at Ft. Pulaski, GA. John also may have been a soldier.
Any help will be appreciated.
Fred

May I suggest you invest in his Civil War Docket papers, you could be amazed at the family information in them. My great, great grandfather had ten living children and named them all with married names!Sharen Miles Metts

Where do you get the Civil War Docket Papers? Is this just for union soldiers?

After getting the docket file# from Ancestry.com I wrote to the U.S. National Archives & Records Admistration with a Form 85A and a money order for $40.00. You can also go on-line now http://www.archives.gov/. It has been about four years since I did it.Yes, this was for a Union Solder.
What a find! I had to sit down with a cup of tea to read through it. Took about an hour. He fought for ten years to get his pension that his Lawyer was pocketing (probably because he couldn't read)! The U.S. Government finally pressed charges agaist the Lawyer and got him his money. Hope this helps, Sharen
