Surnames: Ray, Helmick
I have traced my family to Caldwell County where Moses B. Ray purchased property from the Government in about 1850. The Family, Moses B. Ray, wife Rachael, Children Hiram, Sarah, John F. and others appear in the 1850 and 1860 Census, then just disappear. Moses J. Ray was a neighboring landowner and Moses B. also owned property in Clinton Co. They don't show in the 1876 History of Caldwell Co. They were Southern sympathizers and owned a slave. I think I find Rachael and Hiram in the 1880 Census in Platte Co. She's listed as a window. WHERE'D THEY GO. I need a link back to Kentucky where Moses B. was born in 1813. Rachael and He married in Decatur, Indiana in 1833. No cemetery records for Ray's. Please Help.

1930 is the last available searchable census at this time.

1940 census has been released but it will take several months before the transcription is completed.

Our family ancestor Sarah Ann Ray, married James Melton in 1866. Her obituary says she was born in 1847 in Missouri. I believe she is the Sarah Ray in the Moses B Ray Family. Family Legend (I can't prove it) is that her Mother's name was Rachel. I have been trying to fit here as the Sarah in the B. W. Ray (Wife also Rachel) found in the 1870 Census of Pettis Township, Platte County, but that Sarah was unmarried in 1870.
The Moses B Ray's daughter, Sarah, is a good fit. I believe B W Ray and Moses Ray are two separate individuals who coincidently married women named Rachel, each born in 1819.
