From old family info.
"Charles Roscoe Chase born 30 March, 1901 died July 29, 1919 near Wray, CO en route to visit his uncle in Denver. Foul play was suspected of his traveling companions and their whereabouts since the accident have remained unknown." He would have been 18 yrs old.
Does anyone know how to contact a newspaper who may have this story? Thanks

GOES TO SLEEP ON TRACK; BODY IS HORRIBLY MANGLED
Charles Chase, age 18 years, of Kansas City, Missouri was instantly killed Tuesday morning at the "narrows" four miles east of Wray when a passenger train struck him and mangled his body almost beyond recognition.
Chase in company with two other youths, Emmet Shared and Robert Stetler, were "bumming" their way from Kansas City to Denver. They were put off the train at Laird and started to walk to Wray. Becoming fatigued, they lay beside the track to rest. They dropped off to sleep. When Chase's companions awoke they called to him but received no reply. Thinking their companion too sleepy to answer Shared and Stetler again dropped off to sleep.
With the coming of dawn the boys awoke and looked for Chase. They found a portion of his body about 300 yards distant from where they slept.

I don't know if my wife's family ever actually knew what happened to Charles.
Thanks again for your help.

I'm still looking. You can look, too at www.Colorado Historic Newspapers and see if you can find out anything else. Wray is on there past 1919.
