re: Louis
BastienI have in my records mention of a Louis
Helie Bastien, born August 7, 1808, probably in Maskinonge. His parents were
Alexis Bastien (born 11.26.1772 in Maskinonge) and Marie-Anne
Lemire. If this is the right person, his brother Joseph was my ancestor. The major sources I used in assembling this generation of the
Bastien family (who were indeed Bastiens dit
Vanasse) were the Inventaire des Contrats de Mariage deposes aux Archives nationales de Trois-Rivieres, 1647-1918 (1995) and Pierre Lupien's Repertoire des naissances/baptemes de la paroisse St-Joseph de Maskinonge, 1721-1992 (1994).
Interestingly, Joseph Bastien's son
Olivier and his wife Zenaide Levigne were also in
Wisconsin in the latter 1860s; they were caught in the great Peshtigo fire of 1871 and moved to upper
Michigan. Also present was Olivier's brother
Moise, who later returned to Quebec, and possibly another brother, Adelard. Does any of this sound familiar to you?
Thanks!
