Hi:
I have the 1810 census page with P. Baggit, Orangeburg, SC. Page 127 c (6/25 on ancestry.com when I printed it)
Males:
Under 10 - 2
10-15 - 2
26-44 - 1
Females:
Under 10 - 3
10-15 - 1
Over 45 - 1
My great grandfather was James Allen
Williams, son of Lydia
Baggott and John D. Williams. James wrote a "History of Orangeburg" in 1893. In that manuscript he stated: "The Baggotts came from
Wales in 1766, and settled in Halifax on the Staer River in
North Carolina. They later came to
Columbia, SC.
Parker
Baggott married Lydia Lavinia
Williams of
Columbia. There was quite a romance to the marraige as they were cousins, and her own brother Joseph
Williams performed the marriage ceremony.
Their daughter Lydia
Baggott married John D. Williams, also originally from
North Carolina."
I have been looking for
Parker and information on him for years. I, too, cannot locate the river, nor conclusive proof Parker's family was from NC. Though there are Baggotts in NC.
I did find a listing for a
Parker Baggott on the marrige records for NC I think it was in 1897, but not to Lavinia
Williams. That bride could have died in time for him to marry Lavinia ca 1800. I have never found anything further on those
Williams. Nor on
Parker. I also wondered if Lydia (daughter) married a
Williams cousin when she married John D.
Anything you can share on the early Baggotts would be wonderful! Do you know where
Parker and/or Lavinia are buried?
Best, Barbara
