Hello,
I am looking for the marriage of Joseph Steine to Ellen Ferguson or Ellen Farquason and their family. A son Joseph Steine died in Qld in 1902 and on his death certificate it stated he was born in Melbourne and was age 60 yrs. A family member has mentioned he may have been born at Rifle Creek. A daughter ?Francis Steine died in 1888 age 30 yrs in Carlton. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of those records appear in the Victorian indexes apart from Frances death in 1888. The index indicates the death was in Carlton as you stated but if you download the cert it will give you place of birth, how long in colony (if born outside Victoria). The ref is 12504 in 1888.

Hi Grace

I wonder if this is him?

Surname: STAIN
Given Names: Joseph
Event: B
Father: Joseph
Mother: Helen
Birth Place: MELB
Year: 1845
Reg Number: 7901
Denomination: PRESBYTERIAN
Parish: MELBOURNE & GEELONG
Fiche: 146

Helen was often used interchangeably for Ellen.

However, there is a marriage of a Joseph STAIN to Helen GORDON in 1844 in same parish so could be their child. No other children found, nor Helen's death (as GORDON or FARQ).

How about this one?

Surname: STEAN
Given Names: Joseph
Event: D
Father: Joseph
Mother: Helen FARQUHARSON
Age: 76
Birth Place: WARW
Year: 1874
Reg Number: 4123

Going by his age at death, I think this must be the death of Jos snr with an error for his mother's name (gave his wife's)??? OR there is a mix up somewhere in the generations...

May be worth downloading a copy of the death cert above, tho it may not give you much additional info as it is an early one. At least you know he came from Warwickshire!

Thank you "mollipops1" for your reply. Joseph Stain is more than likely the Joseph Steine I am looking for and will follow it up. Re Joseph Stean who died in 1874. His age at death is confusing-there may have been an error in transcription. I do appreciate your time searhing on my behalf.

Grace

Hello,
I beleive the Joseph Steine you are talking about is one of my ancestors. I am not sure exactly but I believe the Joseph Stean buried in Melbourne is actually a "Steine" and there is a transcription error on the death registry.
This is all according to a document I was sent by my grandmother Ethel and Aunt Dawn.
Cheers
Michael
