Justus Lockwood, b abt 1769, d 25 Dec 1848 in Catt. Co., NY, moved to Lyndon, Catt Co in the early 1800's. Known children include John b 1799 Rensslaer Co, Major b 1806 Sand Lake, Ren Co., Sally b 1811, Ren Co, Lucy Ann b abt 1812 Ren, Co., Hezekiah b abt 1815 Ren Co., Randolph b 1818 Stephantown, Ren Co., Edward b abt 1822, Joseph b abt 1826.
The only Justus Lockwood shown in the 1810 census is in Columbia County on pg 107. On the same page are James, James Jr and John.
His last wife, Aurelia, was b 1791/1792 and so could not be the mother of his early children.
Need to know other wives (s), children and his parents. I have a lot of local Lockwood data to share.

Sid: I probably asked this before, but are you sure of the birthdate of Joseph the son of Justus. I am searching for parents for my gggrandfather, Joseph H Lockwood, born in Lansingburg, Rennselear Co NY on April 17, 1809. He married Cordelia Manning, They are mistakenly put in the 17 hundreds in Holdens book on the Lockwoods. Have information of the family down from Joseph but not before

None in my line and I am not searching them, but merely relating some info I have come across, some possibly being the reason Joseph is listed in the 1700's in that book. In
1793 the following Lockwoods were listed in the Baptist society in Springfield, Windsor County, Vt. ; Amos, William, Abraham, Benony, Hendrey, William Jr, Joshua, Jacob, Joseph, Jacob 2nd, Abraham, 2nd. Also Joseph Lockwood is listed as residing in the town of Manchester, Vt. in 1774.

The 1826 date is based on the 1850 Census for Rice (Ischua), Catt Co.,NY
In it he is listed as being 24 and his wife, Phebe, being 16 with daughter Lucinda being 10 mos.
I have no further data on Joseph

I show Sylvia Lockwood (b Lyndon abt 1824) marrying Nathaniel Briggs on 27 Jun 1840 in Lyndon, Cattaraugus,NY. Her parents were John L Lockwood and Roxanna Sherlock. My source is a letter written 8 Jun 1977 by a Joseph P Sloan of Brockway, PA.
I'm in Maine at the moment so don't have access to my paper files, etc.
I'll be back in NY in a week or so.

I hate to keep bothering you but I did not receive any info on the Lockwoods, particularly Sylvia. Do you know if she was Native American? Some researchers seem to feel she was. Is there a way I can check on this? Also Nathaniel is listed in the 1850 PA census as Daniel. Would you know if this a typo? Any info would be appreciate. Thanks David

The birth date for Sylvia(b abt 1824 in Lyndon) was from a June 8th 1977 letter from a Joseph P Sloan, 1099 12th Ave , Brockway, PA. I can't find the letter at this point but I'm certain there was no Indian heritage involved as I'd pick up on that.

I have no data on Nathan Olmsted LOCKWOOD (b 2 Jan. 1799) beyond that which is contained in "Lockwood Genealogy 1630-1888 by Frederick Holden & E Dunbar Lockwood, pub 1889.
However that book has many known errors.
