Some claim that William T. Speed' middle name was
Terrell. Perhaps so, there was a
Terrell Speed in later generations.
I assume the John Speed you mention is John Speed of
Richmond Co., NC. He was a
Capt. in Rev. War, and wounded at Stono's
Ferry, SC. He was later a
Colonel. His widoe was Elizabeth.
The bond for administration of Wm. Speed's estate was dated 28 March, 1782,
Richmond Co., NC. Zach Martin and his wife were appointed administrators. The bond was signed by
Zachariah Martin and Elizabeth Martin (Wm's widow and second husband). Also signing was John Speed and Robert W. Speed. I have interpreted this to mean that John and Robert were sons of Maj. William. However, they could be brothers.
Welcome to the land of confusion.
