Hi Terrie:

As you can see I am a Speed and your request
for information just about did a number on
me. I only needed William T. 's Wife and I
thought I would have it all but now I want
to know what the "T" stands for. Write me
back and let's start talking. I'll tell you
what I know if you'll tell me what you know.

AND I HAVE EVERYTHING ON THE SPEEDS BACK TO
THREE GENERATIONS INTO ENGLAND.

SO THERE,

ELLIS ULMER SPEED

PS WHAT IS YOUR CONNECTION TO THE SPEEDS?

You stated that William T. Speed died 1788, Anson Co., NC. Can you give me the documentation on that? Some researchers claim that Maj. Wm. Speed, d. bef. March, 1782, was William T. Speed. Maj. William Sped's widow was Elizabeth, who md. 2nd Zacharias Martin. Your information would be of great help in extenting this line.

Good Morning:

My source for William's birth is
Thomas Speed's "Records and Memorials of The
Speed Family: published in 1892. His data of
death was gotten from the Mormon Church site
on the Net and his wife's name (Mary Wage) was obtained from a source on this web site we are talking on now - ref. note from Terri.

Hey, I have found errors as much as ten ysears so if you can refute my dates and are convienced my dates and names are wrong please get back to me.

By the way, since I don't have my wife's
charts with me I can't give you dates but
I remember that Thomas's book identified
William T. as the third son of John and that he was born in 1716. I really don't know how "Terri" identified Mary Wage as his wife.

Please help.

Thanks for writing.

Hi again:

Sorry about not really answering your
question regarding the date of William T.'s
death. My source for that was the Mormon web
site. Try it and let me know what you think.

Bye,

Ellis Ulmer Speed

PS Where are you located?

Thanks for the reply. The date of birth for Wm. T. Speed in Thomas Speed's book probably is correct. He must have had access to a Bible Record. Thomas Speed's book is painfully short of documentation in the early generations. I have been unable to find reference to him in southeastern Virginia. Also, have been unable to verify his lineage in England. However, my access to references has been limited.
My interest is with Maj. William Speed, of Richmond County, NC. He died before March, 1782. Richmond Co. was formed from Anson Co., in 1779. There is a good possibility that he was a son of Wm. T.

Hi Bert:

I will check other sources but to date we have only identified one child from William T. i.e., John Speed who was born in NC in 1750 and died in 1806. I tried William linked with E'beth that you suggested as his wife but got no hits. I will continue to try however to learn more about my and your William T.

BTW, have you found what the "T" stands for?

Be good and keep writing,

Ellis Ulmer Speed

Some claim that William T. Speed' middle name was Terrell. Perhaps so, there was a Terrell Speed in later generations.
I assume the John Speed you mention is John Speed of Richmond Co., NC. He was a Capt. in Rev. War, and wounded at Stono's Ferry, SC. He was later a Colonel. His widoe was Elizabeth.
The bond for administration of Wm. Speed's estate was dated 28 March, 1782, Richmond Co., NC. Zach Martin and his wife were appointed administrators. The bond was signed by Zachariah Martin and Elizabeth Martin (Wm's widow and second husband). Also signing was John Speed and Robert W. Speed. I have interpreted this to mean that John and Robert were sons of Maj. William. However, they could be brothers.
Welcome to the land of confusion.

Bert:

You are a wealth of information. Thank you.

The site I am giving you identifies William as a private in the Revolutionary War. Maybe that was before he got his commission.
