I am from Melbourne Australia and am interested in tracing my family tree. I know very little beyond my parents. Can anyone help or offer suggestions?

Hi Christopher If you are able, ask your father who his parents were, where they were born etc. If not you will have to get your father's birth certificate which will show the information. Maybe they belong to the Geakes who came to Albany WA back in the mid 1800's. I had a Geake gg grandfather who died in Donald Vic but he only had one daughter as far as I know. To get the details, one must check birth and marriage certificates. Good luck, Elaine

Hi - -
I have lots of info on Australian GEAKEs which are all related on my husband's Cornwall side of the family.
Like Elaine said, if you could ask your father his parents' name, or even better, his grandparents' names, I could check my database of shared info and see if there might be any mention of them :-) You never know ....

Hi Dallas
I now have quite a bit more information. I would be interested in seeing if there is a connection in our trees.
Thanks, Chris

Chris Are you related to Richard Geake who arrived in Victoria in 1870 on the Alumbagh with children (of his first wife) and his second wife, Mary Ann (nee hitchens)? The family settled up near Bendigo? I ask because I have become somewhat obsessive about my NSW Geake ancestors and in my travels through data, documents and cyberspace I found some distinct Geake groups in distinct areas: My NSW Geakes who I have traced backwards a fair way (including the John Geake who ended up dying in Donald, Victoria) The WA Geakes who I have traced back and found how they connect with the NSW Geakes (a few generations back) The SA Geakes (William) I haven't attacked this group yet although I suspect they hail from Tavistock, Lamerton area and somehow connect with a particular George Geake of the area. The Victorian Geakes. 2 groups here. 1. James Edward Geake (he of four wives in Australia, solicitor who ended up on the wrong side of the law in his later life (died in late 1890s from memory). Also a Victorian resident. Born in Launceston, Cornwall. I have just started tracking this family. 2. Richard Geake and Mary Ann hitchens. Richards first wife was Emma Northway (with whom he had 3 children, all of whom came with Richard and his 2nd wife to Victoria). Richard was born Lifton, Devon in 1835. Potentially related loosely to the SA Geakes. - am unravelling.
If any of the above rings bells I would love to hear from you as any links between these links would be most welcome. It's a big task I have set myself! Cocksie
