Seeking information on Dickinsons and Manchesters in St. Kitts. Grandfather Hugh W. Dickinson born St. Kitts 11/20/1888 to Richard S. Dickinson and Alice Manchester Dickinson

Did you find any information? I know of Manchesters in St.Kitts born around the nineties, who came to NYC. Also had the pleasure of meeting the Manchester who had done a lot of research on St. Kitts families. No information as yet on Dickinsons. Are you related in any way to the Edmeads, O'Loughlins, Cardins, Baileys, Francises, Ashbys,or Davises? Those are the lines I am working on.

Alan Manchester (b. 5 Nov 1890 in St. Kitts) emigrated to Toronto, Canada sometime before 1924). He was the son of Charles Augustus Manchester and Mary Jane Dickinson. Alan had one natural son, Allan Donald, known as Donald. I have spoken with Donald's son Barry, but I also have worked extensively with Hans Mallalieu of St. Kitts to locate vital statistics of Dickinson/Manchester/Mallaleiu family members, and I do have much data on all three family names.

There is an O'Loughlin connection, but we have not really pieced this together. Mary Henrietta O'Loughlin (b. abt. 1869) did marry Frederic Maillard Mallalieu Burt, son of Samuel Manchester Burt and Ann Gerio Mallalieu. Also, C. O'Loughlin of Sandy Point is identified as witness and cousin on the death record of my great-grandfather, Richard Samuel Dickinson, Jr. I have Mary and Charles as children of Samuel O'Loughlin. I do not have information on the other surnames you mention, although Hans may.

Sorry - I don't have further details on the O'Loughlins, and I don't know of any relation between the Dickinsons and the other lines that you have listed. Regarding Manchesters who emigrated: do you have information on Jim Manchester, b. 1884, who arrived at Ellis Island on 22nd October 1907, intransit to Canada? I'm looking for his offspring. Thanks.

I have an old friend who is a Dickinson of the Manchester/Mallalieu family. He should know a lot about the family. He is about 85 years old but in frail health although his intellect is good. He lives with his wife in Aurora, Ontario.

Yes, this must be Fred Dickinson, born in 1923 in St. Kitts. I think that his son Ralph also lives in Aurora. Fred and I would be third cousins, with our great-grandparents being brothers. I knew Fred lived in Canada but did not know whether he was still living. Since my posting, I have connected with relatives in St. Kitts and visited with them. There also are Manchesters and Mallalieus in Ontario.

I knew some Manchesters in New York, and met the famous Miss Manchester in St.Kitts. She had done a lot of research
on St.Kitts families. You might consult the Archivist in St.Kitts. Her name is Vicki O'Flaherty.

I am a decent of the Manchester Family of St. Kitts Donald Manchester was my great grandmother was Charlotte Manchester. I just recently contacted St. Kitts as a matter of fact yesterday and spoke to the family there. I live in DC would love to connect with as I am doing the same research on the family.

Sorry for the confusion Donald I believe was my great-grandmothers brother. From what I understand there was a couple of children from the Manchester men with different women forming different lineages. There were also other relatives 3 sisters if I remember correctly that live in NYC none of which married. (All deceased now.) I have not been to St. Kitts but have spoken to members there and confirm the relationships. The only Family lines I am aware of are Manchesters and Edmeads. As a younger child I do remember hearing of family in Canada but have not been able to connect with them or find any info on them.

No doubt there is a connection, but I do not know what it is at the present. I have no Donald or Charlotte Manchester of St. Kitts in my database. Do you know what parish they were from? Mine were mostly from St. Thomas and St. Paul. My closest relatives born in St. Kitts were Alan Manchester, b. 1890, and his father Charles Augustus Manchester, b. abt. 1855. Charles married Mary Dickinson, sister of my great-grandfather. Alan does have a son, Allan Donald Bates Manchester, b. 1924, prob. in Canada, and a grandson Donald Barry Manchester, b. 1955 in Canada. I do have other St. Kitts Manchesters in my database, as Charles and his sister both married Mallalieus. I am in contact with Mallalieus in St. Kitts, and I have e-mailed asking if they have any additional data. I live in Winston-Salem, NC.
