I found three sources , that gave information on Dorothée Méchipouéoua.
The first was René Jetté book, Dictionnaire généalogique des familles du Québec, des origines à 1730. pages 305 & 306. Charles Danis(Honoré & Perrine Lapierre) baptized 20-02-1684, Montréal. Engagé Quest 27-04-1704. Married vers 1710 Kaskaskia (Illinois).
Dorothée Mechipouéoua (.....) Amérindienne, rem.(re-married) 1724 Louis Turpin.
children: Hélène n.... m. 1724 Mathurin Chaput

Marie-Anne b. 04-10-1718 Kaskaskia

Charles-Pierre n. & b. 30-01-1720 Kaskaskia

Michel n.29-09- b.01-10-1723 Kaskaskia
Note: the letter n. is for born, né for a male & née for a female in French. The letter b. is for baptised.

The other two sources are: La populations des forts francais d'Amérique (XVIIe siècle) Tome II, by Marthe Faribault-Beauregard, Éditions Bergeron and Kaskaskia Under theFrench Regime, by Natalia Maree Belting, Publish by Polyanthos, New Orleans, 1975.
I don't know where you are located and if a genealogical library or a public library could get the books for you on inter-library loan. They both have some very interesting information on both Charles & Dorothee.
If not let me know and I will try to extract the information for you.

Marcel I am a descendant of Honore Danis and I'm very interested in the American gene in our family since my grand-father Felix Danis had the feature and bone structure of Indian descendant. We've asked our last living aunt and she said no. My brother once asked another aunt when she was living and he was asked to leave her house. Was it a scandal to have indian gene in your family, would you know?
My dad died at a early age and I can't ask him why it's a secret not talked of.
Can you forward me the info you have regarding this and specially Dorothée Méchipouéoua ancestors if you have.
I would like to leave this family history to my children so they are not in the dark and they can be pround of there ancestors.
Thank you so much cousin,
Hugs Carm

I too am a decendent of Charles Danis and Dorothee MECHIPOUEOUA. I have found many various spellings of Dorothee's last name. I have found that she was the dauughter of "Grand Rieur" and I have founf the spelling as "Grand Vieur". Some say it means "Daughter of Grand Laugher". I am not so sure I agree. My father said it meant Gaughter of "Big river laugher". It would make it easier if we could document what "tribe" Dorthee actually belonged to. Most indicat she was "illinois" this however is unlikely since she was born in Quebec. It would also help to know what Dorothee's father's actual Indian name is and not the french interputation is.

My Father Lawrence P. Joyce (4/6/1935 to 5/18/1998)

My GGG Grandfather Joseph Joyeuse (3/4/1804 to 12/3/1844)
My GGGG Grandfather Joseph Joyeuxe (10/13/1769 to ) he came to Vincennes in 1791)
My GGGGG Grandfather Francois Chauvin Dit Joyeuse ( 1739 to 10/13/1781)
My GGGGGG Grandfather Philippe Chauvin (7/7/1707- (married My GGGGGG Grandmother Marie Anne Danis (10/4/1718 to 6/10/1747) on 4/28/1734 at Kaskaskia. She was the Daughter of Charles Danis (2/20/1684 to @1724 )and Dorothee Michipecoucouc (spelling is of question. I also have it as Michiper8ha and Mechipoueoua)

Thank You,

I am a descendant of Dorothee through both Charles Danis and Louis Turpin. Is there proof she was born in Quebec? Most I have seen indicates she was from IL. Also questioning the marriage date for Charles and Dorothee as 1710. Ancestry.com shows Charles as being a passenger to IL in 1715. No children shown born before 1718. 1710-1718 would be a long time with no children born.
Would appreciate any info you could give me regarding Dorothee.
Angela

Hi,

I also am a descendant, there is NO proof at all where she was born, none. Louis turpin married Dorothee 11 Sept 1724, kaskaskia, ILL. He died Sept 1751, Kaskaskia, Ill, She had no death date for here but she died in Kaskaskia, Ill. Louis was married 3 times, Marie Coulon, Dorothee, Helen Hebert. Dorothee 1st husband was Charlis Danis she had about 7 children between the 2 husbands. 3 by Charles rest from Louis.
I will have to have more time with a date for Charles & Dorothee but they did have 3 children. Hope this helps a little bit.

Thank you for your reply. I have most of the things about her husbands and children, but have also found nothing to indicate where she was born. Don't know where everyone is getting the marriage date for Charles Danis to Dorothee of 1710.

Did you know that Louis Turpin was the Capt. of Militia of Kaskaskia? Their child Marie entered the Order of Ste Ursula at the convent in New Orleans as a postulant on June 27, 1749.Souce Kaskaskia Under the French Regime, Natalie Belting.

Thank you for your reply. I have the marriage for her and Louis. Don't understand why everyone keeps citing 1710 as the marriage date for Charles Danis and Dorothee. Is there any proof?
