Arthur Marinius Valeur

My ancestor, Arthur Marinius Valeur (sometimes Marinjus), was born in 1894 in Fredrikshald. He is included in his family's 1900 Census in Halden (at age 6).

I cannot find ANYTHING about him after 1900. I have tried searching the Norwegian Digital Archives, but I've had no success, most likely because I can't read Norwegian. Wouldn't there be a record of SOMETHING about him after the age of 6??

Thanks

Jill

"A record of SOMETHING" -- such as what exactly?

Did he emigrate from Norway? If you have an idea of WHEN the databases for emigration of the ports close to Fredrikshald should be checked for him listed in those registers.

Was he a member of the Lutheran church? If yes, you might next find him mentioned in a confirmation class of his church congregation at an estimated age 14-18.

Using the Digitalarkivet is ususally easier for beginners if you use the English mode as much as is available.

If you google the father "Karl Valeur" with the quotation marks, it seems that you have gotten some information on the family.

Is Arthur your ancestor? Or Dagny?
Are you trying to find Arthur still in Norway? Descendants/cousins from him?

Here is a posting that had 34 responses for this family, but nothing for Arthur?

change it to flat view so you can see all of the postings.

The recommendation to try to find his confirmation is a good one, since perhaps he didn't even survive childhood?

I do not believe he emigrated to America, but, like I said, I only have a record of him being alive until 1900. He was Methodist.

Arthur and Dagny are both ancestors of mine. Dagny was my great-grandmother, and Arthur was her brother. (I assume he died a long time ago.)

I have a copy of Arthur's baptism record.

By SOMETHING or ANYTHING, I mean--isn't there a way to find out what happened to him after 1900?

His parents (Karl and Anna) did not emigrate (although they did visit the U.S.) Dagny, Petter, and Amy (Arthur's siblings) emigrated to the U.S.

If you want to see if he died as a child, after the 1900 census, this is maybe the resource you could search. It's the same place where you have gotten his birth record.

Just search the years under Døde dissentere, dead dissenters (non-Norwegian Lutherans)

http://www.arkivverket.no/URN:kb_read?idx_id=4116

you can increase the size of the page in the drop down menu at the top, that currently says 40%.

Males are at the top half of the page, females at the bottom, that should speed it up.

I did just read (maybe here?) that the 1910 census will be released in a year or so in Norway. That will be exciting. And maybe answer a question, but keep digging!

I searched but was unable to find Arthur. Thank you for the resource, though. It's great, and I've never used it before.

What exactly do you mean by non-Norwegian Lutherans? Arthur was Norwegian but not Lutheran. Sorry; just a little confused.

Thanks.

I guess it should have been Norwegian non-Lutherans.

There are quite a few spelling variations of Valeur, and Artur/Arthur, so maybe he emigrated under one of the other spellings.
