Hi James,
My grandfather was Joseph O'Reilly who joined the DMP on the 25th October 1895 and was discharged on the 6th July 1923. Retiring on a pension.
I got this information off a form DMP Form No. 9. It icludes a short description.
Have you any other information?
Dave O'Reilly

Hi James

My GGrandfather Matthew O'Brien is shown on his daughters (Teresa) marriage certificate in 1916 as being a Policeman.I could not find any Matthew O'Brien that seem to fit the bill in RIC.On his other daughters marriage cerificiate in 1910 Matthew is shown as a farmer.I did check DMP also but could not see any Maqthew O'Brien,I was wondering if older men or should I say more mature men were recruited as Matthew seemed to have a late career change.

My Grandfather Daniel Bushe,Teresa husband served in the RIC 1916-1922

My Great Grandfather served in the DMP. Daniel Moore born in Kildare. He served until retired c. 1910 perhaps later - but that's a guess on my part. Can you help with any of your records?

Anything will be greatly appreciated - loved your book on the RIC - another Great Grandfather there.

Thanks

I believe my Great-Great grandfather Edward LENNON was a Sgt, acting Inspector in the Dublin Metropolitan Police.
He was a pensioner by 17th Feb 1886, where he is shown as such on his son's marriage certificate. He was born on or about 2nd Feb 1815 and died between 1886 and 1887. In 1885 he was living at Martin's Row Chapelizod Dublin. He then moved to 28 and subsequently 87 Aughrim St Dublin in 1887.
If you have any further information regarding his service I would be very happy to know it.

Martyn LENNON

I have your excellent books DMP - A complete Alpha list and DMP A short history - fascinating books , thanks. My great grandfather, Richard Vero, according to my grand mother (his daughter) was a member of DMP. His marriage cert of 1882 indeed shows him as a Sub-Constable in DMP. There is no record of him in the Alpha list of officers book - I wondered also what a sub constable was? My grandmother talked of him being a detective who had a badge under his jacket lapel which gained him entry wherever he needed to go. If you could shed any light on him or any of this it would be appreciated. Thank you. Patrick Ell

I'm looking for info on my great grandfather Richard Mitchell, who was known as 'black' and was smuggled out of dublin by hteBritish around 1870's. He subsequently emigrated to New Zealand - wondering if he was a member of the DMP. jim's book is apparently not available in libraries in NZ.
Thanks
