Hello,
My name is Dominik Herle and I finished my master thesis at Philosophical University in Ljubljana, Slovenia, under the direction of professor Klemenčič. I wonder if you have any informations about Croatian writter and poet Matija Šojat, who was an editor of newspaper called 'Hrvatska', which was published in Calumet, Michigan around the year 1920. The newspaper at that time belonged to Slovenian- Croatian Union (Slovensko- hrvaška zveza), which latter on merged with Croatian Fraternal Union (Hrvatska bratska zajednica). I would like to know when and where Matija Šojat died? Thank you very much for all your help and God Bless!

Try US Death Index site.

The closest match I found is Mary H. Soyat, born Feb 14 1912, died Aug 14 2007 in Bellingham, WA. I'm aware this one might be too young though.

Shoyat Šojat
Hello, Dominik-
My great-great grandmother was a Šojat from near Lič, Croatia - that's how I found your post. Most of the people with that surname changed the spelling to Shoyat. There are Shoyats who settled in Michigan, Indiana & Minnesota. Maybe you will find some in Washington, Wisconsin & Illinois, too. I'll ask my mother to check social security death records for combinations of the name (Matthew/Matija, etc.) & we'll see what she finds. Good luck - your post is a couple of years old...are you still looking for information about his place & date of death? Take care.
