Joseph Day Eastman, son of Lyman Eastman and Lydia Nichols, is my husband's greatgreatgrandfather. He married Ella Shanks in 1867, probably in Wisc. Joseph was one of the early settlers in the Browns Valley, MN area, homesteading in 1880 just across the border in Roberts County, SD. Children of Joseph and Ella Eastman are Joseph H., Lizzie M (Horsman), Lydia Ann (Sykora), Minnie Ella(Thompson), and Ella May (Howard). We'd like to get in touch with others from the Lyman and Lydia Eastman line.

i was researching the eastman branch of my wifes lineage and came across your query and noticed some similarities between the branches. i have traced my wifes line back to a union between a joseph eastman and a hannah lyman circa 1780. from this union came jerusha eastman b, 29 aug 1781. jerusha married warham shepard 25 jan 1815. to them was born joseph lyman shepard 17 mar 1818 at westfield, mass. he married emily hubbard 2 apr 1841. to them was born george lyman shepard 25 jul 1842. george married louisa livings 6 mar 1868. to them was born henry sherrill shepard 22 oct 1876. henry married asa hutchison 11 nov 1901. to them was born my wifes grandmother jeannette shepard.
please advise if you believe our lines are connected or not or any other information you have especially on the parents/pedigree of josepheastman and hannah lyman.

In 1872 Thursa Eastman, sister, was mentioned as an heir of her brother, James Gardner Wilson of Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY. She was living in Milwaukee, WI at that time. Thursa's husband may have been the John Eastman living in Hannibal, Oswego Co., NY in 1830, age 30--40, with wife also age, 30-40. It has been estimated that Thursa was born in 1795, and if so, she would have been age 35 in 1830, with fits with this census family. John Eastmas & his wife had one son under five, and one son, ten to fifteen years. They had a daughter under five, a daughter five to ten and a daughter ten to fifteen.

In 1820 there was a John Eastman in Troy, Rensselaer, NY , age 26-45, as was his wife. They had three daughters under ten.
In 1820 there was a John Eastman in Sweden, Genesee, NY, age 26-45. Other males in the household were two under five years; one, five to ten; one, sixteen to eighteen. The females were two under five years, one, ten to sixteen,; one, sixteen to eightreen; three, forty-five years or older.
In 1840 a John R. Eastman was in Milwukee, Wisconsin, The males in the household were one, five to ten; one, ten to sixteen; one, sixteen to eighteen; and three, 20-30. The females were one, five to ten; one, sixteen to eighteen; one forty to fifty. [This latter female could be Thursa, but it does not appear that her husband is with the family, unless he got marked down in the wrong age category.
In 1860 a Thursey Eastman, age 65 was in Exeter, Green Co., Wisconsin, born in MA. With her was a Sarah Eastman, age 44, born in NY, and Charles Petitt, age 17 and Jennett Pettit, age 14, both born in WI.

9 years later: I have found you! Regarding the 1910 census. Daniel Engle was my greatgrandfather. He was married to Lyman's (Leman on that census) daughter Rose Bell on Dec. 23, 1899 in Burnett Co. He and my grandmother Lydia May and her brother George were living with them. He was listed as married, but I have no idea where Rose was. They are listed in the 1900 census incorrectly as Engte. I know that he later married a woman named Emma and they lived near Hertel, WI in the 1950's. If this helps, or you want what little info I can give you, I'm at momdurkee@yahoo.com. I'm just getting into this stuff. Linda L. Durkee
