I'm not sure if you're still checking this, but my family has an Anvoots connection that I'm trying to dive into. My great-great grandfather was Henry Anvoots, born c.1863, came to the US c.1870. I have next to no information on him, but wondering if you have found any information that could connect him to your family? I don't know whether he had siblings or who his parents are. I did find a John Anvoots born c.1862 and immigrated about the same time. His mother was Henrietta, born c.1835. Maybe a brother?

I gather Henry was married to Sarah Lemma?

In that case I found a lot:

Marriage Henry Anvoo X Sarah Lemma
Marathon, Wisconsin, 02 July 1889
Father’s name: Anthony Anvoo

Searching further on Anthony Anvoo(ts) I find:

1900 census
Antone Anvoots, father, living with son Albert Anvoots and family

Death Antone Anvoorts, Depere, Wisconsin, 04 Sep 1903, Born Holland Nov 1825

Joseph Anvoets, born West Depere 1870, died West Depere 19 Aug 1874
Son of Anton Anvoets and Henrietta Westerlaken

1885 state census Wisconsin, Antoine Endevoorts

Minnie Anvoorts, born Holland 1868, died De Pere, Brown, Wisconsin, 23 Oct 1899
Daughter of Antone Anvoorts and Minnie Westertaken

And very important:
1880 census
Antoine Anvorts and complete family

And that brings me, after a lot of searching, to the following family:

Antonius Endevoets
Born Nistelrode 24 Nov 1825 at 08.00 hrs
Son of Hendrikus Endevoets and Wilhelmina Aarden
Married Nuland 15 Nov 1856 to:
Hendrien/Hendrina Westerlaken
Born Rosmalen 18 Mar 1833 at 23.00 hrs
Daughter of Ele/Elias Westerlaken and Maria van Nuland

Birth Antonius, nr. 46 :

Birth Hendrien, nr. 26:

Oh yes,
They were not from the province of Drenthe, but from the province of Noord Brabant.
And the name Endevoets is in Dutch pronounced the same as Andevoots in English.

Kind regards,

Hi Bob,

Nice to hear from you again!
At first I couldn't find anything on the Dutch side of Anvoots. But when I found the last name of Henrietta and started to look at phonetically similar last names of Anvoots or Endevoorts, I came across the right family.

From thereon it was relatively easy, just searching the records....

I'm fine, as is my daughter:)

How are you? Still living a good life in Florida?

Hope to hear from you soon.

Kind regards,

Thank you so much, both Marianne and Bob. Sorry it took me a while to check this, but I've just started a new job and haven't had much time to do anything online in a while. I really appreciate all your help.

Henry had already passed before my grandfather was born, and I gathered that they really didn't talk about him (or maybe just didn't know much about his side). All I had to go on was his name and a pair of shoes that the family kept. I really can't say enough how much this will mean to my grandfather and my family. We'll be able to fill in a gigantic hole in our family history.
