Tucker, Joseph IV

Jeanne Kurasz  (View posts) Posted: 22 Apr 1999 12:00PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Tucker, Valentine, Ray, Gragon
Joseph Tucker IV had a son, Charles, born 1820 in N. Windham, CT. Married Cynthia Snow. Charles died 1884. They had at least one child (that I know of) named Cynthia Tucker, born 1845 in Waterford, CT. She married Luthor Valentine. They had at least one child, Abigal Valentine, born 1869 in Willimantic, CT. She married William Ray. She died in 1939. One of their children was Helen Ray, born September 28, 1890 in New Jersey. Helen married Edward Gragan. Helen died in 1972 in New London, CT. They had 4 children - Helen, Winifred, Marie, and Celeste. All but Helen are still alive. Winifred is my maternal grandmother.

Joseph Tucker IV can be traced to George Tucker Sr. of Kent, England sometime in the early 1600's.

I have recently traced an ancester, Richard Tucker, to Windham, Conn. He was listed in the 1850 Edgar Co., IL census as age 53 (means born abt 1797) in "Windan" Conn. His wife, Jane (McCune)Tucker was age 51 (b. 1799) in Bedford, TN. I know they were in Ohio by 1824 as daughter, Nancy was listed as born in Ohio. They were in Ohio until maybe late 1840's. I noticed 1810 Woodstock, Windham Co., Conn. has several Tuckers listed. Does anyone know where this Richard fits in?

Im researching my family line and one that is elusive to me is Cozzens. James Earl Cozzens is my grandmothers father. I have photos of him holding an american flag etc and lots of him at a school but he is always alone and there are no photos or names of any of his family in our things. I'm aware sometimes indian children where sent away to be raised by Christian missionaries... perhaps this was the case? That side of my family was somewhat ashamed of the indian heritage back then so tis been hard to trace. I noticed your Cozzens appears to be Indian as well. Is this a coincidence?
