This may be a longshot, but Peytonville Arkansas is just north of the LA border, northeast of Texarkana. I think it may be that the family was from that area. Winn Parish and Rapides are both in the northern areas of LA, and it may be that he heard he was born in Peytonville, and since he lived in LA most of his life he just assumed Peytonville was also in LA. I know, its a reach, but might be worth looking for your surnames in that area. Hope it helps.
one mention online of Peytonville is here:
http://backwardbranch.com/lrcgs/lrcgoodspeed.pdf another is here:
http://www.littlerivercountyar.info/index2A.htmThere is also a listing for a Peytonville cemetery online:
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txkusa/Cemeteries/peytonvi... I saw that a Peytonville Texas was also mentioned in someone else's genealogy, but I could not find anything in Texas other than Peytonville street, which is in Tarrant Co.
In my searches, I did use multiple spellings, inc Paytonville and Paytonvill. I did not find any plantations or slaveowning homes or other historic mentions. I DID find a family name, but in Texas and Arkansas, not in LA.
There is a Peyton family in Rapides Parish La; in fact several in 1880s census and later. The earliest, largest family I can find is Charles Peyton, who was born abt 1820 and had landholdings in 1850 LA and died in 1860 Rapides Parish:
Charles Pemberton Peyton, b 1820 in LA
m Amelia Caroline Decker, 1855 (poss 2nd wife) Rapides Parish, LA.
Children include Charles p jr, Sarah Miriam and Mary Esther.
(this according to a submitter.)
I still think the closest answer for your situation MAY BE in Peytonville, Little River Arkansas.
Best of luck.
