I'm looking for the parents of my 3xg-grandfather, George June. All I know is that he was born around 1821-1823 in Connecticut and he was a shoemaker. He was married to Martha Ellison and they were living in NY in 1850 He may be related to another shoemaker that was living nearby that was a couple years older named Benjamin June (I'm thinking, a possible brother). I've looked over the "descendents of Peter June of Stamford" info to no avail. I'd think that he would have to be related to these Stamford Junes somehow. Any help Appreciated. Thanks,

Curtis Benjamin

Hello.
As you already know, shoemaker George June was in the 1850 US census for Carlton, Orleans County, NY.

It appears that there may possibly have been another brother, Amos L. June, a shoemaker who was born in CT about 1825-27.

In the 1860 and 1870 US census for Carlton, Orleans County, NY Amos is there with his wife Deborah and son Fred L. and in the 1880 US census he is a "shoe merchant" still in Carlton but with a second wife named Jane and a 3y old daughter Geneveve.

Amos L. June died in Waterport, Orlean County, NY in 1894 (see below). If all else fails, it might be worthwhile to send for the death certificate of Amos to see if HIS parents are named in it and then see if you can somehow link them to George and Benjamin June.

Orleans
The death of Amos L. June, of Waterport, occured Friday after a protracted illness with paralysis. The deceased was an old resident of this town and a well-known business man. He was sixty-nine years of age and leaves a son, Dr. F. L. June, a daughter, Jennie, and a wife.

I now see that in the 1850 US census for Carlton, Orleans County, NY that Amos June is in the same household as Benjamin June. The following may give an approximate date when the shoemakers, JUNE, arrived in the village of Waterport in the town of Carlton.

Amos L. June a native of Connecticut, was born in 1824 and in 1848 he removed to Waterport. He married, in 1852, Debby Ann Palmer. She died in 1874 and in 1875 he married Jane McKennan. The children of Mr. June are Dr. Fred L., of Waterport, and Genevieve. Many other pioneer settlers and representative citizens of Carlton are ....

Thanks so much for the info and the help. Yes, I'll have to try to dig up vital records for Benjamin and Amos. Those records may have their parents' names and usually that's just enough since it seems the farther one goes back in those early American and colonial record, the fewer the population and the more people have researched those particular ancestors. I feel that I'm getting closer to finding them...
Thanks again,

Curtis Benjamin

I found this about Amos June:

http://www.ourancestry.com/TNG/getperson.php?personID=I32146...

If this is accurate, I'd say it's a possibility that Solomon could be George's father as well. I had this message also:

I think I'll start digging up stuff on this particular Solomon June...

Hello. I looked at the website you found and noticed that the family tree of "Hugh and Marian (Yancey) Zorger" does not include Amos' first child, Dr. Frederick Lemuel June. I found Dr Fred June's obituary when I was searching for news items on Amos, I can email it to you if you would like. The obituary names his wife and daughters and his sister's married name.

Also, I went through the Hale Collection of burials in Stamford cemeteries, found many JUNEs but not Solomon or Phebe. I see that he was in Greenwich, CT in the 1820 census, I wonder if they were interred there. If you ever find out where they were buried, I can go there and take a photo of the headstone, if it still exists.

Perhaps Hugh & Marian Zorger can tell you where they found the information about Solomon & Phebe June.

Good luck with search.
