Looking for Birth Father No Name - born 12/1970

I was born in Milwaukee, WI in December 1970. Mother's maiden name Vi Ulrich. Don't know anything about my birth father except that he may have been of polish descent, was probably married with children at the time, and lived in the Milwaukee area. Name on my birth certificate was Tammy Lyn Ulrich, and was later adopted after my mother married. If anyone is looking for siblings or children please contact me. I am at a loss, I don't even have a name. Thank you.

Hi, Tammy, it's been a while since your 2003 posting. Did you find your birthfather?

If not, do you have any new clues? Names, dates, and places of residences are needed to find people.
Was your birthfather a close friend or class mate of your mother's? How old was your mother when you were born? Do you now have contact with your birthmother?

I am an adoption search volunteer for Wisconsin.

Jack, Thank you for the information. My situation is kind of unique in that my mother is my birth mother, she just didn't list my biological father on my birth certificate and either won't tell me his name or truly doesn't remember. I have actually seen my original birth certificate and under father it states none, until my parents married when I was almost 3 and my father adopted me. I posted this hoping that he (my biological father) was wondering about me and might try to find me. I realize that there is no way for me to search for him without at least a name. Once again, thank you for the information.

Tammy, there are several ways you can leave a trail for your birthfather, in case he is looking for you.

1) Post a message on ISRR, the International Soundex Reunion Index. This is a free registry.
I can get you the blank form, if you want.

2) If your birthfather gave up his parental rights, the adoption agency would know it. Wisconsin Stat 48.432 list your rights to the information. What you can do is leave a waiver of confidentiality in the adoption file, if he is looking for you. All you have to do is contact the Department of Health and Family Services in Madison, WI to get the form to put in the file. If he is looking for you...this will help. Jack, Manitowoc, WI

You might try and find your Adoption Decree. The adoptive parents should have a copy of it , or their Lawyer. The adoption Decree has the birthparents names listed. It would be interesting to see if a birthfather is listed on the Final Adoption Decree.
There is no breach of confidentiality between Lawyer and client. If your adoptive parents are supportive of your search, maybe they can find the Adoption Decree. Usually BOTH birthparents must relinquish their parental rights before an adoption can take place;
unless the Dept of H &SS take the child form the birthparents. Jack

Jack,

I know that it's been over two years since I last responded to a post, however, I am hoping that you are still willing to assist. The problem is this, my mother, who used to be in possession of my original birth certificate and adoption papers, has either lost them or is lying to me, either way she won't let me have access to them. Additionally, if my mother purjured herself and stated that she did not know who the father of her child (me) was, and my original birth certificate states 'none' under father, would he have had to give up his parental rights? Strange situation to say the least, but if you could forward me any information you might have I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Tammy

Tammy, if your birth father was listed on the Final Adoption Decree, or the original birth certificate, he would have to sign a Termination of Parental Rights form.
If no birth father is listed, no paternal termination is required before the adoption could take place.

It is possible that your birth father does not know about you and was never told. If you knew who your mother's dating friends were before you were born, you might have a piece of the puzzle. It looks like your birth mother is the only person who knows who the birth father might be.

If you email me at hnasep@sbcglobal.net, I can send you an attachment on the Adoption Laws. I want to help where I can. Jack

I don't know much about this stuff, but have noticed thru the years that baptismal records can give clues or even lists the name of the father. Also, you might try looking in County Probate files---look under your mothers last name and then "In Re" as the first name. Sometimes courts hide adoption records within probate files. Probate is open to the public and baptismal might be easy to obtain also. If your mother was a minor--she may have gone to court to get aid etc. Good Luck
