I have found a very reliable source who told me my ggreatgrandfather Andrew Osborn was killed in the Raid on Paintsville during the Civil War in April, 1864 along with a James Patterson. They were members of the 7th Cavalry and were fighting with Ezekiel Clay's group at the time. Anyone know more than this? I was told they were killed close to where the Mayo School is. I am trying to find where he may be buried and any info on the fight.

I have found out definitely this happened. It is in John D.Preston's book "The Civil War in the Big Sandy Valley". It is footnoted when it mentions two Confederates killed and referring to that note in the back it explains their names and where he got the info. Interestingly, in the August, 2011 issue of the Kentucky Explorer magazine someone wrote a story of a lady from Magoffin County, Ky who rode to Louisa and warned of the Rebels coming to Paintsville. A wonderful story- although it led to my greatgreatgrandfather's early demise.
