I'm looking for the family of Edmund (aka "J.E.V.") RIALS (and other spellings) who was born in
Dallas County AL in 1830.
1848 he was in
Pike County, married to Elizabeth
GRANTHAM. (Or so she said - no one has found a marriage record and she was with her parents in the 1850
Pike Co census.)
By 1860 Edmund was in
Winn Parish,
LA. He seems to have traveled with a son (Henry) of Jacob
Rials also of
Pike Co. His wife's brother, John
GRANTHAM, married a daughter (Sarah) of Jacob
Riles.
There is some speculation that Edmund was a son of Jacob, but the problem is that in the 1850
Pike Co census Jacob had a ten year old in his household named Edmund (
Edmond). Was this an age goof on the censustaker's part? A case of same names in the household? After all, Jacob had a son named Henry and a another son named John Henry. As stated above, my Edmund was actually "J. Edmund V. Rials", and some of the family has always thought the J was for John.
Or maybe Edmund was a relation of Jacob's? It's weird the way there are so many
Rials female heads of household for the 1850
Pike Co census. Any info to help sort out these different
Rials families in 1850
Pike Co is welcome!
Thanks, Shari
P.S. I know that GC boards are now gatewayed to the corresponding RW mailing list. Please direct reponses to the GC board indicated as I'm not on the
Pike Co mailing list at the moment. :)
