Family legend has it that my great great grandfather was head of the palace guard under franz joseph. My great grandfather's surname was Mayer and his wife's maiden name was Furst. Any ideas where I can locate information about court life and the palace guard?

Any luck on finding your Great Grandfather within the court of Franz Joseph. It is said that my great, great grandfather was the court physician and I have had no luck tracking this down. If you have found any valuable sites, please let me know.

Sorry no, I haven't found any great resources as of yet. I did locate a researcher in Budapest who was able to get me some documents I needed but nothing else. Good Luck Joyce

I think we may be related. My great grandfather last name was Mayer, and he was with Franz Josef as a guard.

You never know when someone will answer a post. Thanks for your follow up. My great grandfather was Hubert Karoly Mayer. He was born about 1865 in Austria. Family legend has it that he was a guard in the court of Franz Joseph. He was very tall. My grandmother Ilona Stefania Mayer was born in Budapest, Hungary on August 18, 1897. Her father Hubert Mayer immigrated to the US in 1904 and brought the rest of his family over in 1907. He was married to (Katalin, Katarina, Katherine) and they had 3 children, a son Karl born in 1893, my grandmother born in 1897 and another daughter, Katherine born in 1903. Does any of this fit in with any of your family information?
