My connection to the William Lewis/Catherine Travis family is their son James (Jim) Lewis. James Lewis married Margaret
Conner, who was called Maggie. Maggie, however was previously married and had two daughters,
Molly King
who was really later referred to in MO Census records as Mary
Virginia King. She married (1st) a man named George
Gabbert and m,#2
Judge John L
Carmack, who was the first
Mayor of
Weston,
Platte co MO.
Maggie
Conner King's second daughter was
Price Missouri King who married William E. Dean. Both these girls ended up in Las Vages
New Mexico where they both are buried.
James (Jim) Lewis and Maggie
Conner King Lewis then had three more children before Maggie died shortly after the birth of the third child in1874.
My great grandfather was listed in the 1870 Census as Francis W. Lewis, born in 1863. He was never called by that name, but went by Frank, or James Frank Lewis.
His younger sister Nellie married Americas Vespusis
McDowell and they both died in
Tulsa,
Tulsa co OK, and the youngest child Kate or Catherine Lewis was first cared for by
Molly King
Gabbert Carmack, then put into an orphanage.
Kate ran away from the orphanage at about age 16, lived with her sister
Price Missouri Dean shortly and then got a job in
Oklahoma and married James M. Halbrooks. She died in OK also.
I know my Jim Franklin Lewis was the son of James Lewis. I have family notes that refered to James brothers
Nate and Andrew. His notes say
Nate was hanged as an outlaw in Tx.
If anyone has any information on William Lewis and Catherine Travis, I would dearly love to communicate.
Thanks Scotty in PA
