I am looking for anyone who would like to share information on the line of Edward Marchant (1773-1823).
He raised a family with Sarah Avery (1787-1822) in West Hoathley, Sussex and then Cookfields, Sussex

They emigrated to Australia with 5 small children- Henry, Maria, Edmund, Timothy and Thomas. They arrived in NSW on the ship Diana on the 9th of June 1849. He was 34 and a tanner. His hometown was Cookville Sussex. Susannah was 33. They had Thomas, John, George, Martha and Mary in Australia. Thomas had 9 children with Charlotte Jane March. One of these Reuben William was my Great Grandfather. He had 6 children with Emily Jane Taylor one of which was my Nanna Nita

I wonder if you can help me. I am trying to trace my gg-grandfather Thomas Hugh Marchant who was born, I believe, about 1800 and subsequently lived in the Cuckfield/Slaugham area of Sussex. I wonder if he was related to your ancestor Charles Marchant as I have found a Thomas Hugh Marchant baptised in Slaugham in 1842 who appears to be Charles's son. As it is such an uncommon combination of names, it occurred to me that there might be a family connection. I should be grateful for any information you have about Charles and particularly, his parents.

Hello. Tod1997, could you confirm that your ancestor's first name is indeed Charles Marchant that was born on 28 Dec 1814 in Slaugham?

I am a bit confused because I found through the ancestry.com OneWorldTree site that the name of the Marchant born on that day was not Charles but Edward who was the son of another Edward and the grandson of Hugh. I just wondered whether Charles was your ancestor's first name or perhaps he was called Edward Charles Marchant? If his first name is Charles it seems that the info on the other site is in error. I am a desendant of Charles/Edward's brother Owen and Sarah Streeter, by the way.
