Was the greatgrandfather Thomas Batson given the middle name of Jefferson? Did he have at least two brothers, Abihu Brack Batson (b. abt 1865, d. abt 1924) and Andrew Jackson Batson

Hello. I noticed your entry about William Batson and Phoebe Mayhorn (or Mahon?). It has been a number of years since your post, and was wondering if you had obtained any additional sources of information. William is my wife's GGGgrandfather.

William Batson, born in Virginia, was the father of my g-grandfather, George Washington Batson. GW's siblings were Nathan, William, GW, Phoebe, Elizabeth, Irena, Ziphie, Benjamin and David.

Are any of these names familiar?

Some of those names are familiar, but not all. I have William Batson, born in Culpepper Va (1799-1860) married to Phoebe Mahon (1805-1880). I only have records of 4 children of that marriage, most likely the youngest who had not yet moved away before the census was taken.

The 4 children I have are Phoebe Batson (1830-1865), Irena (1836-1930), Benjamin (1840-1862) and David Batson (1845-1910).

David Batson, married Serena "Rena" Frazier. According to my records, they had William J, Franklin, David Jr., Abbey, Robert L., Thomas, James J. and George W.

It is through David Jr. that my wife traces her family.

John, I think you're right. Nathan, William, George and others were the older children.

In addition to your list of children for David, I also have Asbury Price, David P. and Alice.

You probably know that David along with his brothers, George Washington (the 28th), William (Home Guard) and Benjamin (died in service) were in the Civil War. I'll attach a file (2 pages) that describes David's service.

My line is through George Washington and most of my research has focused there.
