Hello Mary Jane.
I think you already have my e-mail address. Could you please look up to see where my great-grandfather Richard William Rowlands is buried. I think he died in 1888 and is buried in Nuwera Eliya.(I think). I am trying to purchase his death certificate so I will know what he died of and how old he was.

Re: Tombstones and Monuments in Ceylon LOOK UPS OFFERED
Hi Julian, An interesting snippet re Alexander Davidson found in The Peterhead Almanac and Buchan Directory 1865. He lived at no. 14 Kirk Street, Peterhead in 1865. Maybe you already knew this ? Please contact me if you want to know more about this listing,I shall put you in touch with the collector of these lists. ( maryjane_ocl@ hotmail.com) As for Burials in T & M , there is a burial at Galle of a Mr William Davidson on 31 May 1807,. He was from the UK ? and was appointed deputy Commissioner of Ordnance and Stores at Galle. He may be related to your Alexander (could be his father ? )
Also at the Cemetery in Batticaloa there is a JANE Davidson Buried Dec 20 1779 aged 2 months , she was the daughter of a Mr "Alex" Davidson, The inscription reads.........
Here lieth Jane Davidson aged 2 months and one day, daughter of Alex Davidson, Chief of Vizagapatam. Her afflicted parents have caused this tomb to be erected to the memory of the angelick infant. Suffer Little children to come unto me for of such is the kingdom of God. Saint Mark. (and yes the word "angelick" is howis it spelled in the book) MaryJane.

Re: Tombstones and Monuments in Ceylon LOOK UPS OFFERED
Thanks for your helpful reply. Regretably, the Alexander Davidson you mentioned is not the Andrew Alexander Davidson I am researching. Mine left Scotland for Ceylon between abt 1830 and 1849. As far as I know, he died in Ceylon between 1878 and 1905. That also rules out any connection to the tragic early death of young Jane Davidson.
Thank you for your time and trouble. Julian
