The IRISH Family

My great-grandfather was born in Monserrat in 1890. His name was William S. (Stanley or Samuel) Irish. His parentage is unknown but he is almost certainly of mixed race (Irish and African). Any information about him or the Irish family is appreciated.

Hi.
I'm not sure if we are thinking about the same William Irish but I have an ancestor by the name of William "Elijah" Irish. He was a great-uncle to my mother. My grandmother (Alice Queeley)was his niece. My grandmother came from Victoria Village.

If any of this sounds familiar, please email me for more information.

Dear Michelle,
I have been looking for Jonathan Wilkin who was born in Montserrat. His father was named as 'informant' on his birth certificate in 1870. I have a copy of an article written in the Uk Family History Magazine that lists J. Wilkin as 'Estate Proprietor' 1888-1890. George H. Irish was also listed as such along with J. Hollings and S. Howes.
Will check to see if I can find the Irish surname written in another article of earlier times in Montserrat.
Alannah

Father could have been George Irish, a well to do young owner of the ship "Georgenianna," active on Montserrat in 1887 per research on Shiell family. Was probably born about 1865. (Part of the island inhabitants who married into the Horsford family (of Nevis and St. Kitts) and Killikelly family (of Barbados).

My husband's Great grandfather James Meade was Treasuer at Montserrat and President on occasion between 1850 and 1890. Goerge H Irish is shown in his daughte's birthday book for July 14th, but no year, as is Ellen Irish and Martha Irish for different dates. Howard Fergus's book Montserrat History of a Caribbean Island shows an Irish as a coloured Puisne Judge in the 1850's
The Soc of Genealogists in London has on microfiche 'Caribbeana' a collection of lists of wills made and details of business transacted. The first Irish to be mentioned on Montserrat is 1654 William Irish is a member of the Council in 1688 and 9. Too many details to give here. You'd have top contact me seperately.
