HELSEL, TIPTON, ALBRIGHT, STIFFLER

I am seeking information on the mother of Henry C. Helsel (also spelled Heltzel, Hoeltzel, or Helzel). He was born 5/25/1820 in the Roaring Spring, PA area and married Catherine Albright in 1844 or 45 (according to his death certificate). He was baptized at the Newry Lutheran Church, who list his parents as John and Christina Helsel. Although the baptism record indicates that the mother's name is "Christina," this is apparently contradicted by a family record, which indicates that a Jane ("Jenny") Tipton-Helsel, also married to a man named "John" was the mother of "Henry C." This information was apparently recorded in Jane Tipton-Helsel's copy of the "Heidelberg Catechism of Reformed Churches," which, regretably, is lost. The catechism indicates that the wife of Henry C. was Catherine Albright, which conforms with the information on his death certificate. Other children of Jane and John Helsel recorded in the catechism are: Sarah (married to Jacob Ressler), Elizabeth (married to George Yingling), George (married to Sarah Singer), Edward (married to Maria Lingenfelter), David (married to Lavinia Fickes), and John (married to Margaret Feathers). According to my information, Jane (Jenny) Tipton-Helsel was born in 1792 and died between 1880 and 1890 in Blair County, PA. Her husband, John, was born 3/5/1791 and was the son of Henry Helsel and Eve Stiffler. John died around 1846. John and Jane's first child, Sarah, was born in 1812. If anyone has information regarding the mother of Henry C. Helsel that might resolve this apparent contradiction, please contact me.

Hi there--I am a descendant of Jennie (Jane) and I have her father as Edward Tipton. Are you looking for any Tiptons or just her? I have a little file started for another researcher that I have been keeping and would be willing to share--just let me know. Kath

I'm looking for parents of Jemina TIPTON b. 2 Sep 1791 in Bedford Co., PA, d. 28 Feb 1860 and buried in Old Union Cemetery, Osterburg, Bedford Co., PA. About 1814 she married John AKE b. 15 Jun 1793, d. 9 Jun 1866 also buried in Old Union Cemetery. I know of seven children from this marriage; John T. (m. Sarah GRIFFITH), David T. (m. Julia BERKHEIMER), Leah (m. Abraham H. Hull), Chauncy F., Felix, Catherine (m. Charles Augustus STATLER) and Martin V.

I'm wondering if Jemina could have been Jennie? I'm interested in more information on your Bedford Co., PA TIPTON line - particularly dates.

I'm looking for any information on my great grand-father and grand-mother: Samuel C. Albright and Sarah Lowery; they married and lived in southern Bedford Co., I believe in Londonderry Township. Samuel was born in Cooks Mills, Pa. in 1850; don't know anything about Sarah, except that she was from Frostburg, Md. They were married; had nine children; the oldest one was William Henry, who was my grand-father. He is buried in a German Lutheran Cemetery in Frostburg, Md.. Would appreciate anyone with info on either Samuel or Sarah, to please contact me.

According to the information that I've seen, Samuel C. Albright was born 7 Sep 1850 in Bedford Co., PA., and died 27 Aug 1903; he is buried at Palo Alto Cemetery, Bedford Co. Samuel's father was George C. Albright (1813-1866), and his mother was Elizabeth Abigail Kennell (1813-1901). Samuel married Sarah Ellen Lowry (1855-1914), and they had at least 8 children: Emma Jane (1875-1945), Willian Henry (1877-1960), Jessie V. (1879-1933), Annie E. (Abt. 1883-1886), Joseph S. (1885-1887), Roy (1889-1947), Charles L. (1892-1892), and another child, name unknown.

Samuel C. Albright was the grandson of Christian Kennell Sr. (1785-1853) and Hannah Leydig (1793-1867).

Sarah Ellen Lowry was born 8 Mar 1855 in Bedford Co., PA., and died 14 Nov 1924; she is buried at Palo Alto Cemetery, Bedford Co.

According to History of Bedford, Somerset, and Fulton Counties, 1884, S.C. Albright worked at the Savage Brick Works. That source stated that George Albright Jr. moved from Little York to Somerset Co. with his father George Albright Sr. George Jr. died in Somerset Co., and his widow moved to Hyndman (Bedford Co.).

Most of the above information came from "Supplement l, The Albrights," by Shannon D. Albright, 1989.

David,

Thanks for posting on Rootsweb's Bedford County, PA website. I am interested in John Ake's ancestry.

My 3rd great grandmother is Elizabeth Ake, born March 4, 1780 to John Ake and Pamelia Harrison. I believe Elizabeth is the sister of the John Ake who married Jamima Tipton.
