Hi June,

Do you know where your Gehrig family lived in the US. I show a Christian Gottlieb Gehrig who married Elisabetha Margaretha Neuhart. Elisabetha was born April 15, 1809 in Rumbach, Pfalz, Germany. They had a son Louis who in return had a son Philip. Here is the census record....

1880 Census Ohio, Monroe County, Summit

Caroline 9 OH
Henry 8 OH
Catherine 6 OH
Mary C. 2 Oh

My ggrandfather was Frederick Godfrey Gehrig (1846 - 1919)and according to older family members was a cousin of Lou Gehrig. Their fathers or grandfathers were supposed to have been brothers.
On my ggrandfather Frederick's death certificate, his father is listed as Frederick Gehrig and his mother is listed as Anna Voegele.
I have not been able to find who the father, brother, siblings, or whoever that proves the relationship to Lou Gehrig.
I will gladly share my history with anyone interested.
My ggrandfather, Fred, married Anna Magdalena Douwalter in Switzerland, and first came to America with two of her brothers.

Supposedly, Lou Gehrig was also my grandfathers cousin (family hearsay anyways). He used to laugh & say that they were never "kissin cousins". My grandfather was Frank Gehrig, his father was Valentine Gehrig who moved from Fiesch Switzerland to Chicago Illinois in the late 1800's. FWIW... there are a lot of Gehrig's in Fiesch Switzerland; I've been told that all of them are related. rgehrig@kc.rr.com
