Elizabeth Holm was in Detroit in 1945 but it is said that she was from West Branch. Does it mention her anywhere in your book? Was the Holm family close to the Clayton's or Gibson's?? is there any Hart's mentioned?

Was Silas W Close a photographer? I have a couple of photos bearing the photographer name "S. W. Close & CO West Branch, MICH". They look like they were taken in the very late 1880's. Would you be able to confirm the dates he was in buisness? Any ideas as to what became of his photo's? I am searching for Kartes and McCormicks in West Branch 1870's and forward.

Yes, he was a photographer, though before and after that he was a carpenter. I have a photo of my great-grandfather John Huston, Jr. with the S. W. Close & Co. name on it on my Ancestry tree. I don't know how long he had that business, but he did it in 1900, and then by 1910 the census says carpenter. 1880 he was in Ohio, and a carpenter. So you could estimate the date of the photo as being after 1880 and before 1910. I don't know what became of the business.
