DEAR FRIENDS: I'm trying to locate any information on my TWO (2) Great-Great-Grandfather's family (and descendents) who lived in
WHITE COUNTY.
ONE (1) brother (FRANK GEIER/GEYER & Family) lived in Goodland,
NEWTON COUNTY. Frank, his wife Johanne (?), and their son John Carl arrived in the USA from the port of
Hamburg on June 19, 1868 on the Electric. They had 3 children who all died in Germany (Socasburg?). One other son, Leopold, was born in Goodland; he never married. The son, JOHN CARL, eventually married WILHELMINA "MINNIE"
ROSENBROCK on Nov 26, 1914 in Goodland. They had 5 children: Carl Frank
GEIER(my grandfather), Mabel
GEIER ROCKWOOD, and 3 other children (born 1887-1891) who all died within a few weeks of each other in 1895.
The 2ND brother, William GEIER/GEYER -- as shown below --, arrived in the Port of New York from the Port of
Hamburg, Germany on May 29, 1861 on board the HUMBOLDT, a square-rigged ship. The arriving family was:
* William GEIER/GEYER - DOB 5/17/1828,
DOD 2/2/1901 in
Reynolds, IN)
* Wife, Wilhelmine [
HAYES] - DOB 8/21/1840,
DOD 5/6/1908 in
Reynolds, IN)
* 3 of their eventual 10 children were:
- - - Auguste [m. Sam
VERRILL],
DOB 1856
- - - Ottilie/Otillia [m. Mr. ROSE],
DOB 1858
- - - (Mary) Marie [m. ???], DOB Dec 1860 or Jan 1861
I use GEIER/GEYER interchangeably because we've always been referred to as
GEIER, but all ship passenger lists indicate
GEYER. This is also true for his brother & family who arrived in 1868 (aka
GEYER). So, until I have more confirmation on what the family name REALLY IS, I'll refer to both.
Other children born to this couple, all in
Indiana, were:
* Frank
Rudolph (my great-grand father) - DOB 11/11/1866 in Goodland, IN. DOD 2/25/1953 in
Reynolds, IN. He married Wilhelmina
WIESE 4/29/1896 in
Reynolds, IN. They had 3 children:
* * *My grandmother, LUELLA WILHELMINA (who married her 2nd cousin, the grandson of FRANK
GEIER [WILLIAM GEIER/GEYER'S brother, noted above] Carl Frank
GEIER 4/28/1923) - DOB 8/3/1900 in
Reynolds, IN,
DOD 11/25/1986 in South Bend, IN
* * *Gerald (m. Stella ?), DOB ???, DOD ????
* * *Homer (never married),
DOB ???, DOD ????
* Josephine {m. ???), DOB in
Reynolds,
DOD Indiana* William Robert "Willie" (m. Arnota Pearl
GARRISON 9/15/1892),
DOB 9/19/1864 in Goodland, IN,
DOD in IN
* Dora "Dorothy" (m. Mr. KELLOGG, ???) - DOB 7/4/1872 in Goodland, IN. DOD 2/13/1958 in IN.
* Albert (m. Grace ??) - DOB 10/17/1874 in Goodland, IN. DOD 1964 in
Reynolds, IN.
* Lenora "Louise" (m. Hampton LONG, ??) - DOB 9/1/1878 in
Reynolds, IN. DOD ???
I'm looking for birth certificates, Death certificates, obituaries, Declaration of Intention (to naturalize), naturalization certificates (on the parents and if applicable on the 3 children which came with them from Germany), and Marriage certificates.
I'm especially interested in finding the PostMaster/ Mistress certificate/record of my grandmother (LUELLA W. GEIER) when she was the first postmistress of
Monticello, IN in the late 1920's through 1930's. (Original document I saw once hanging in her South Bend home, signed by -- I believe -- President
Truman. Don't know what happened to it following her death).
Sorry to be so long-winded....but I'm trying to find any info I can....my father and all of his family are now gone, and no information was really gathered prior to my father's death (nearly 5 years ago). Any help would be GREATLY APPRECIATED.
