I just wanted to give you some information about the Doebeles of Murg and about Murg itself:
- Doebele is one of the most common surnames in Murg, several families lived and still live at the same time
- It was the use in Murg to give the families „house names“ to name the different branches of these families, for instance the „Keller – Döbele“. This ist he name of a family which descends from a Doebele who was a „Kellermeister“ = „cellarius“.
- The above mentioned Severin Doebele, b. 1819 is listed in an Ortssippenbook (OSB), written by Dr. Helmut Faller of Bad Säckingen, with an ancestry back to the 1600’s.
- His emigration to the U.S. is mentioned, but without year.
- The OSB is available thru the LDS Library
- Murg is located directly on the Rhine river which is border to Switzerland; it’s in the middle between Basel (west) and Lake of Constance (east).
- Spelling variations in the church records: Doebelin, Debelin, Debele
