Have you run across any of the following spellings in your family search. I know that it hasn't always been spelled in the above ways, but my family is "Coziahr". We have no idea where the family originates. My GGrandmother pronounced the last name 'Cazar'. My paternal line runs: Walter/Walter/Elisha/William/Lewis/William/Ludwig(b~1767)
Thanx for your help! Mary :->

I am interested in the Coziahr family and other variations of the Coziahr name. Do you descend from Elisha Coziahr, b. abt. 1882 in Mills County, Iowa? I am trying to trace the family of Susannah Coziahr, b. abt. 1846 in IN, who m. James Scalf, 4 December 1862 in McDonough Co. Illinois.

I am researching the Coziahr family line--
George Washington Coziar b.1847 in Harrison county, Indiana (1850 census says Iowa). Probable siblings are Susannah b.1846 and William b.Feb 1850;
George married Phoebe Melvina Holden b.1850 in Lamoine twp., McDonough co. Illinois/Indiana

George's father--
William Wilson Coziahr (1850 census Coziar) b.1810/1811 Indiana/ or North or South Carolina.
Married Elizabeth Brown b.1812 Tennessee

Carol, I think that your ancestor William Wilson Coziahr is likely a descendant (g-grandson?) of Sandifer Casiah (spelled many different ways), b. 1737. I descend from Sandifer's sister Sarah Keziah. If you would like to exchange information, please email me: CrenKat@aol.com.

Kate: You said you were seaching for Coziahr links. Don't know if this is of any value to you, but I decend from a Lewis Ludwick Coziahr, b.1813 d.1858. He was son of William and Susanna (George) Coziahr, for whom I have no information other than that William may have been son of a Ludwick Coziahr. I do not have any information on the heritage of the surname with this spelling, but would be interested to know if you have discovered anything further.
Lewis Ludwick was married to Christian Brown. I believe they were both originally from North Carolina. They had 9 decendants. #5 child, Wilson Coziahr was my gr-gr-grandfather and his son, LeRoy, one of 10 children, was my gr-grandfather. Lewis Ludwick Coziahr came to Illinois in 1841 and settled in Henderson Township, then Ontario Township and later Rio Township in Knox County. My Coziahr family ties eventually settled in Galesburg. If you would like more information on this lineage, email me at gilmet_root@msn.com. I'll share what I have, but it is admittedly thin and I was not the collector of the original source documents.

I am looking for any information on a Coziah family from the west coast. Supposedly emmigrated from somewhere in Russia and shortened their name from Coziahvitch. My information is that they were of Jewish descent. The particular line of Richard Norman Coziah. Would be most interested in this lineage for my son.

My husband is Jerry Bupte. His ancestors were from Romania. His father's name was Simon Bupte, however he was born in USA. But none know his grandfather's name. If you are interested more, let me know.

I am from Illinois and the granddaughter of Florence and Elmer Coziahr. I know some family history and Elmer is still alive to ask questions. So maybe I can help?
