One of my sources notes that the family Casanas in the Canaries came from Cassano, a city in Italy. They settled on the island of El Hierro in the 16th century. Can give a cite and several names if this seems to fit.

Another source does not list any Casanas, but does note that a family named Casada emigrated from the Canarias (Guia on Gran Canaria) to New Orleans. His wife was Melchora Cabral. Two children were baptized in New Orleans, Pedro Ramon, 29/1.1779 and Francesca Eusebia, 24/12/1780.

Pardon if neither of these is a lead. Regards. LAElderLaw@aol.com

Gentelmen, I am not following the Casanas branch, but the Delgados.

Buenaventura Casanas y Morales, son of Juan Antonio Casanas y Arocho and Maria Tomasa Morales (Camacho?) married Maria Magdalena Delgado Jimenez (descendants from a studied Delgado group from Lares who settled in Utuado and whose origin is San Miguel de Abona, Tenerife. Five siblings identified: Elias, Manuela, Ramona, Ramon and Buenaventura Casanas Delgado.

There is another Juan Ramon Casanas y Vale, married Gumersinda (Gume) Delgado Jimenez, Magdalena's sister, daugther of Rafael Delgado Esteve and Petronila Jimenez y Rios. Siblings: Eugenia, Prudencia, Ramona, Srafin, Francisca (Panchita), Carmita, Ramon, Angel and Elias Casanas Delgado (died at age 1).

I would like very much to be in contact if you consider is a related branch in order to exchange information.

Yes, it does confirm what I have. I thank you very much.
My family branched off to Puerto Rico. Buenaventura Casanas Delgado. One of his sons went to Cuba. All in the 1800s.

Please send me what you can about the folks that went from Cassano, Italy to El Hierre. From what I can gather, you hit the nail on the head.

Hi my name is Mirtha. My grandparents were, Buenaventura Casanas and Magdalena Delgado. It is my understanding that our name Casanas goes back to the Canary Islands and possibly Italy. I am so interested in learning more of any ancestry from the Balearic Islands. Will anyone with any information, please reply. Thanks.

Hi,
I would greatly appreciate it if you could get back to me. In reading through the boards, I believe we are cousins. Your grandfather and my dad were brothers. I also believe that we visited each other as kids in N.Y. Your dad was Elias and your mom was Malen, correct? Write soon :)
