I had an Abraham Longenecker born July 17, 1834 and died Nov. 9, 1902. He was my great grandfather. He married an Elizabeth Forney. Most of my relatives were from Lancaster and Reading Lititz areas. If this is of any help let me know.

Apparently you are looking for the same person I am. I have a good genealogy back to Samuel Longenecker and Anna Shank, but I have had difficulty locating any records for Daniel Longenecker, of Londonderry Township, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania and Anna Shank of the same township and county. You seem to be using the "Record of Family and Children of Samuel Longenecker" compiled by Theo. F. Longenecker, Hudson Ave., Dayton, Ohio. I have one addition and three corrections to make: John Longenecker, my great grandfather, died July 5, 1911; Fanny married John Coppess and Catherine married Daniel Wise; and Benjamin was their son, according to a record by Ellen M. Shields, p. 374, located in the Darke County Museum, Greenville, Ohio. Regarding my great grandfather, John, an article appears under the Greenville Township, p. 509, as follows:

JOHN Longenecker, farmer and carpenter, Sec. 1; P.O Pikeville; another old settler of Darke County; born in Montgomery Co., Ohio, Feb. 12, 1830; he is of German descent, his grandfather (My note: Daniel) being one of four brothers who came from Germany and located in Pennsylvania; the father of John was Samuel Longenecker, who was born in Dauphin Co., Penn., April 5, 1789, and emigrated to Warren Co., about the year 1821, and, six years later, located in Montgomery Co., and, in 1840, came to Darke Co. and settled in Richland Township, and followed cabinet-making and undertaking until his death, which occurred Sept. 14, 1842 (My note: should be 1852); he was married in Dauphin Co., Penn., to Anna Shank, who was born in the same county Nov. 19, 1790; they were the parents of ten children, of whom five are now living (My note: all are deceased now); Mrs. S. died in Richland Township Dec. 5, 1847. The rest of the article deals with my grandfather, John Longenecker. Without more records it is impossible to determine who the father and mother of Samuel was. It is true that Daniel the first, brother of Ulrich the first, came from Hamburg, Germany, to America, but he was born in 1666 and could not have been the father of Samuel; therefore, I must ask the question: Did Daniel, father of Samuel, come directly from Germany with three brothers or was he descended from Daniel or Ulrich from Switzerland? The answer still escapes me.

By the way, I have pictures of the Coppess cemetery and the headstones of Samuel and Anna Longenecker. I had to dig Samuel's headstone out of the ground; only the letters e n c k were visible. I also have several old books that belonged to Samuel:

1. Sechs Bucher vom Wahren Christenthum by Johann Arndts, 1843, all in German. In his handwriting he wrote: Samuel Longenecker, Bought in Lebanon County Pennsylvania October the 17th, 1848, Price $3.25 Cost. This indicates he was in Lebanon County four years before he died.

2. German-English Dictionary dated 1834.

3. Die Bibel, ober die ganze Heilige Schrift, alten and neuen, Testaments, nach der Deutschen Uebersetzung D. Martin Luther's. dated 1837.

4. A New Testament in parallel German and English, dated 1850. This may have belonged to my grandfather, John, who wrote in it: Samuel Longenecker Died Sep. the 14th, AD 1852, Aged 63 years 5 months, 9 days. Anna Longenecker Died the 5th AD 1847, Aged 57 years and 16 days. Father and Mother.

Just thought you might be interested.

I am a descendent of Samuel Longenecker and Anna Shank, who were married on October 2, 1810, in Londonderry Twp., Dauphin Co., PA., now Lebanon County (after 1813). Samuel was born in Dauphin County on April 5, 1789 and he died in Richland Twp., Darke Co. Ohio on September 14, 1852. His wife, Anna, was born in Dauphin Co., PA. on November 19, 1790 and she died in Richland Twp., Darke Co., Ohio, on December 5, 1847. They had 10 children:

Born Died Place
Michael 9/29/1811 7/13/1897 Montgomery Co., OH
David 7/14/1813 8/20/1869 Darke Co., OH
Maria 6/01/1815 4/16/1821 I don't know
Catherine 3/13/1817 9/03/1898 Ohio w/of (Wise)
Nancy 10/11/1818 2/25/1862 I don't know (Miller)
Samuel 6/25/1820 9/29/1839 I don't know
Daniel 9/15/1822 9/14/1855 Montgomery Co., OH
Fanny 7/13/1824 7/14/1895 Warren Co., OH (Coppess)
Elizabeth 12/01/1826 11/24/1907 I don't know (Hager)
John 2/12/1830 7/05/1911 Darke Co., OH

I believe we need the connection between Abraham and the father of Samuel, who was a Daniel that I am searching for. I believe Daniel was born in Lancaster County near Lebanon prior to the separation of Dauphin County from Lancaster County in 1785. I have had no luck thus far.

Here is some of the information I have on the Longeneckers, and hopefully it will help with your connection.
Abraham Longenecker, b. 1748 Lebanon County, d. 1823 Lebanon County. He married Barbara Fretz.
Their children are:

Abraham, Daniel, Elizabeth, Veronica, Barbara, Peter and John, b. May 16, 1774. I have more information on Johns family, as he married one of my Buck ancestors.
I also have some Shancks. John Shanck b. about 1779 in Conewago Twp, Lancaster County, PA, (now Dauphin county) m. Elizabeth Buck (before 1805), b. 1779 in Conewago Twp, Lancaster County PA (now Dauphin county). Had 4 unnamed daughters, 1 unnamed son, and Henry Shanck, b. June 18, 1805

Thanks Rhonda for responding to my inquiry about Samuel s/o Daniel Longenecker from Londonderry Twp., Dauphin County, PA. I have the Daniel s/o Abraham Longenecker that you mention. He married Anna (unknown), to whom was born Christian Longenecker. Christian and his wife, Mary Kingsport, were the parents of Daniel Kingsport Longenecker, 1844-1932, and also Christian Longenecker. I don't find any mention of Samuel as being a son of this Daniel s/o Abraham. On the other hand, both Abraham Longnecker and Daniel Longenecker are mentioned in the census of Dauphin Co. in 1790, pp. 17 and 19, respectively. I need to know more about the Daniel you speak of.

There seems to be a one generation gap between Samuel and our ancestral parents who came from Switzerland and also Hamburg, Germany. This gap makes a disconnect for many Longeneckers in southwestern Ohio who are descendants of Samuel, who moved to Warren Co.,Ohio in 1821, thence to Montgomery Co., Ohio in 1827, and lastly to Richland Twp., Darke County, Ohio, in 1840. He died September 14, 1852.

Keith, Daniel Kingsport Longenecker is my great grandfather. I have proof from me back to Daniel's parents Christian Longenecker and Mary Kingsport. Your information indicates that Christian's parents are Daniel Longenecker and Anna (unknown). Where did you make the connection from Christian Longenecker to Daniel and Anna? It would make my day if I could connect them and get more information from you about Daniel. I have a lot of information to share. Thanks. Gene

I got the wife and children of Abraham Longenecker on page 199 of the Longacre-Longaker-Longenecker Family History book. I connected this with the LDS ancestral file where I got Father: Abraham Longenecker (AFN: 8LH4-KJ)

Mother: Barbara Fretz (1QZZ-MV6)

Son: Daniel Longenecker (1QZZ-MZS).
Then, I connected it through your web page with Daniel and Anna. I should have noted that it was the "suspected father." I'm sorry for the oversight. It looks like we are looking for two Daniel's in Dauphin county

Correction to posted message. Since Anna Longenecker was born in 1787, she could have been born in Dauphin Co. before it was formed in 1785. I have no firm data on this.
