Andrew Mangrum Pickett
b 1853 Randolph Co IL
I am trying to locate parents of A M Pickett
his siblings were:
Martha b 1844 ILL m James Greenwalt
Mary Ann b abt 1849 ILL m James H. Clendinin
William b abt 1850 Ill m Amelia "Mena" Grah
Beal 1852 ILL m Mary Greenwalt
Susan b 1857 ILL
John Mangrum seems to have adopted or been related to this family, he list Susan as his sister in 1870 Rockwood, Randolph Co ILL census.
Andrew Mangrum and the rest of his siblings, father could be James Pickett b KY or ILL d before 1870.
It was said that James Pickett was a cousin to Gen Geo Edward Pickett famed for Battle of Gettysburg "Pickett's Charge"

Thanks

As you probably know Andrew is in Rockwood Illinois in the 1880 census with wife Nancy son James dau Mary and brother William. Andrew,Mary and William born in Illinois. But Nancy was born in Indiana and their first born child James A.Pickett was born in Kansas.
It states that the father of Andrew and william was born in Kentucky and their mother in Indiana. The brothers are farming.
--------------
IN this same census as right next door to Andrew and Nancy is the Greenwalt name you used in the query.
Malinda Greenwalt, head of the house age 49, Archy Greenwalt age 24 son, Mary Pickett her daugh is 26, Joseph William Pickett Malinda's grandson is 10, Cora J granddau is 7 and baby Phoebe(very blurry)L. is one. All born in Illinois.
-------------
Beal Pickett married Mary Greenwalt dec 25th 1867 in Jackson county Illinois.
The name of Pickett is very common in Illinois.
It has William marrying Amelia Groh dec 1 1875 in Randolph county Illinois.
Martha Pickett married James Greenwalt in Randolph county Illinois dec 9 1958.
I don't know if it is the correct Susan or not:
Susan A Pickett married Samuel C.Mitchell oct 2 1876 in Williamson county.
But the Maryann Pickett I find is listed like this:
Mrs. Maryann Pickett married Isaac Harper may 7th of 1847 in Randolph county.
regards,

Allot of the info. below, I found on Message boards, or on line. At least it gives me somewhere to start.

I am still researching, the info from Andrew Mangrum Pickett foward is pretty easy to get, it's his father that is the problem, no one seems to be able to connect him to a father. Mary Thelma Webber thought it could be James. The following is about what she said:
About General George Edward Pickett, Mary Thelma Pickett Webber wrote-"My great-grandfather Pickett (given name unknown) was a United States Army officer who fought Indians most of his life. I was told that he was a cousin to General George Edward Pickett who led the famed charge at Gettysburg."
So, I got Gen Pickett's line---but can't connect our line.
The following are connected to Randolph Co ILL, I know one of the Beal's is ours.

I found this on a Hezekia: Hezekiah J Pickett and Susan??Hezekiah Johnson? I was hoping his name could be: Hezekiah James, thus the reason Mary T. Webber thought it was James.
on line rootsweb's
*note: same bondsman for marriages of John and Hezekiah, indicating that they were probably brothers. Hezekiah J. PICKETT later moved to Randolph County, Illinois, and his eldest son, Beal Pickett, served in the Civil War for the North. John S. PICKETT's eldest son may have also been named Beal Pickett (John had 2 sons under age 5 in 1830), but John's eldest boy died before 1850 so his name doesn't appear in any records. Since the eldest son was usually named after the paternal grandfather, Hezekiah & John S. PICKETT's father was likely Beal Pickett.

Beal Pickett in Illinois (3 different men named Beal Pickett, closely related to one another, lived in Randolph and Jackson Counties, Illinois):
*Beale Pickett age 15 in 1850 Census of Randolph County IL, was living with his mother Mary Ann and stepfather Isaac HARPER (his father Hezekiah J. PICKETT had died and his mother subsequently married Isaac HARPER, a cooper from Pennsylvania).
Beal Pickett married Mary GREENEWALT on 20 Dec 1867 in Jackson Co, IL
Beal Pickett was age 63 in 1900 Census of Randolph County, IL (born in 1836?). Widower.
Beal Pickett died about 1915 in Jackson County, IL, leaving a widow Sarah who subsequently married a CLAXTON. Sarah died in March 1922 at age 66
another Beal Pickett died in 1879, age 27 - cemetery records of Randolph County, IL

OUR Beal MARRIED MARY GREENWALT AND DIED IN 1879

TWO Beal PICKETTS served in the Civil War from Illinois - probably cousins to one another. One was the son of Hezekiah J. PICKETT, the other probably the son of Alfred W. PICKETT & Mary McNELLY (see Campbell County marriages)

This is very interesting to this line:
TWO Beal PICKETTS served in the Civil War from Illinois - probably cousins to one another. One was the son of Hezekiah J. PICKETT, the other probably the son of Alfred W. PICKETT & Mary McNELLY (see Campbell County marriages, above). I must not have copied all of this mess., I don't have anything on Campbell Co marriages.
I have that Andrew's brother Beal was in Co 1 10th Reg, I haven't worked on this, and I don't know where I got the information.

Any help is appreciated

Do you have any idea where the name Beal/Beall? It is believed to be a family name.

Thanks
Sue
